Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..

Published

For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?

Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 questions

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Kaplan review course (all 7 Question Trainers and about 60% of the Q-Bank) as well as Hurst Review. I thought Kaplan was helpful for practicing questions but Hurst was far more helpful for content review. I also used Saunders 6 months ago, good for content/rationale.

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? ERI (first year) then HESI (2nd year) specialty exams after each course, then the HESI in February (had to complete 3,000 practice questions at 80% or better, in "batches" of 100 questions or more - like we couldn't do little quizzes of 10 or 20 questions - before taking the HESI, these I did from Saunders mostly). I got 964. Those scoring below 900 had to complete an additional 1000 practice questions, also at 80% or better, then retake HESI.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?Less than 48 hours, I took the test Wednesday at 8:00am and license posted to BON website sometime between midnight and 3:00am Friday morning. BON had my license posted before PearsonVue showed results available.

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? Oh, I kinda felt like I'd been run over... and in shock, worried that I'd gone too fast or wasn't thinking straight, frustrated I'd had so many SATA and drugs I didn't know, along with 3 questions over a disease that almost no one in the US gets anymore (5 cases since 2000, I looked it up when I got home)... I was confident about my answers on only 3 or 4 questions... Rationally, I could justify why I had most likely passed but overall had this overwhelming fear and panic that I'd failed.

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?Yes

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? I had 75 questions. Alot of priority, SATA and delegation. I had no calculations.

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? I did Saunders 4th edition and very little exam cram. Saunders is awesome!

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? WE had to take the HESI. I used Saunders for it too.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I had to wait a grueling and painful 48 hours!

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I just knew I had failed! I called everyone and told them I had failed and would be studying for the next month. Then I turned off my phone for 48 hours til I found out!

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes

Just remember, you can do it! This is what you have been preparing for. You don't have to know everything about everything, you just have to know how to think your way through questions! Well wishes to everyone!:nurse:

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?

I took 75 questions

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?

Our school made us take the Kaplan RN course as a requirement for graduation. I relied mostly on the qbank.

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?

Junior Year, we used some testing product called total testing. Senior year, we used Kaplan.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

2 days. I took the test on Friday and got results Sunday evening.

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

I was pretty confident that I had passed. From reading the boards, I pretty much knew what to expect and that a lot of SATA, infection control, and few math were a good thing. And that pretty much summed up my test.

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?

Yes

Specializes in LTC, SNF, NEURO-REHAB, Tele, ICU.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 questions

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Hurst online review course, Kaplan question bank, Lippincott NCLEX book, Saunders NCLEX book

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? ATI

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 48 hours to the minute, took it on July 10th at 5pm and got the results on July 12th at 5pm.

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I was sure I had passed as soon as it shut off. I had gotten so many SATA, and had been told those were good because they are all higher level questions. By the time I got down to the car I was starting to doubt that I had passed because the questions seemed so easy and I figured they were the lower level questions. By the next day I cried off and on, and tried to tell my family I knew I had failed, but they wouldnt hear of it. Thank the Lord and my saviour Jesus Christ, they were right. I passed!!! The wait is the worst part ever!:yeah::yeah:I will never have to take it again!

how many questions did you take on nclex? 75

what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? i did not use a test review since i could not afford it, but a friend of mine had passed down her old kaplan cd which contained q trainer 1-7 (old style version, without sata questions). i also used saunders and purchased a 3 week ncsbn subscription

did your son offer any testing? yes, ati books and virtual instructor (useless by the way!) which predicted i would have a 99% chance of passing on the first try.

how long did you wait for result of the test or are you still waiting? tested on the 8th in los angeles, and found out today i passed :rckn:

what were your thoughts coming out of the test? i had very conflicted feelings. deep down i knew i had pased but i did not waant to be overly confident. it was the the typical 'pass' test. plenty sata, delegation, infection control, priority... but i knew i had for sure failed 2 out of 3 math questions, so that just kept ringing in my mind.

was this your first attempt? first and thankfully last!

1. I got 75

2. I took a review class run by a local company that our school recommended - it was 40 hours long, and I thought it was excellent. I bought the Saunders Q&A and did every question. I also bought the Saunders Comprehensive and did the test at the back of each chapter without reading the chapter first - I then concentrated my studying to the chapters where I scored less than 70%(I think that is the first part of Suzanne's plan....) - it was a great way to figure out your areas of weakness. Otherwise it can be kind of overwhelming. The CD's that come with the books are also very helpful for focused testing in certain areas (renal, meds, prioritizing, etc)

3. We did the ATI tests/review books - while in school I thought it was a pain in the butt (all the extra testing), but now I'm glad they made us do it.

4. Tested on July 10th @ 8am, found out July 12th @ 9am (I passed!!!!!!!):bowingpur:bowingpur

5. I felt numb :uhoh3:- my brain was fried - I didn't know what to think - the questions were weird!! Actually, it wasn't the questions that were weird, it was the possible answers...on so many questions, the expected answers were not there - I felt like I was purely guessing half the time. I had done SO many NCLEX practice questions over the past year, and these questions seemed very different to me. I basically felt that I wouldn't have been surprised to see that I had failed...

6. First and last, baby!:w00t:

For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 140ish

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Kaplan (classrm portion w/ qbank). I finished all the qbank & QTs & reread all the rationales. If I didnt' understand something I would look it up. Also, I took notes on rationales just b/c I learn good by writing.

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? HESI...but it didn't count for anything. We just had to take it.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 48 hrs, checked online

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? It was VERY similar to kaplan questions. The questions seemed easy even though I didn't know a lot of the exact answers. I was calm & wanted to claim it. Of course, as the hrs passed I began overanalyzing it & started doubting myself.

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes, thank God!

Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

1. how many questions did you take on nclex? 134-136

2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? kaplan... all kaplan. took the live review course (horrible, but just cuz of the teacher);

3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)? ati, 98% chance of passing nclex on 1st try... complete joke, wouldnt trust the ati to pass the nclex for anything, but it does work for some.

4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 2 days... passed!

5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? i failed... layed in bed crying for 2 days and tried to get over the fact that i failed...until i saw the results.

6. was this your first attempt at nclex? yess

Specializes in Renal.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? I had 75 questions

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? I'll be honest... I didn't study as much as some on here say they have studied. I started really studying 3 days before the test! I did take a Sylvia Rayfield review course (paid for by my employer so it was free) and studied a little from Saunders. The Sylvia Rayfield Q&A book is AWESOME and thats what I studied 3 days before the test.

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? We did HESI. I failed all the HESIs except psych and the cumulative one, although I passed it on the second try. So there is hope for those who are worried bc they failed HESI!

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 2 days

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? At first I wasnt sure. Just in shock that it shut off at 75 questions, lol. But I KNEW that I had failed. Out of 75 Q's I knew maybe, hmm, 5 answers??? lol. I literally went through the test and was like, hmmm that sounds good, Ill choose that one.... haha. I had 18 SATA which I, along with most ppl, are horrible at. Only had 1 calc, and lots and lots of med questions about side effects and teaching (which I am also bad at). Had 1 delegation, 2 infection control, and lots of priority near the end, which im actually pretty good at. Maybe thats what saved me?? lol It was a pure miracle of God that I passed because I literally did not think I did well at all and I KNOW that I didnt study as much as I probably should have... But then I passed, so who knows?

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes, and only one, thank God!

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? I took Kaplan Complete and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? ATI but I don't really think that doing so helped to prepare me for the nclex. I really didn't feel like I was REALLY learning and prepping until I began Kaplan.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 48 hrs via pearson-vue online

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? "It was VERY similar to kaplan questions. The questions seemed easy even though I didn't know a lot of the exact answers.... Of course, as the hrs passed I began overanalyzing it & started doubting myself." (I AM QUOTING THIS FROM A PREVIOUS POST BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FELT!)

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes!! Prayer + Kaplan was the perfect combo for me :)

1. 75 questions

2. I used Sylvia Rayfield, kaplan, NCLEX 3500 and Silvestri in rotation

3. We used ATI

4. In NC it took 48 hours

5. I was in shock to say the least. I felt that I the questions were really hard but I was able to narrow the correct answer down to two and then I analyze 10 times until I felt sure what the correct answer was. While waiting I was extremely anxious and terrified of failing.

6. Yes, this was my first and ONLY time taking the NCLEX-RN!!!! By God's grace I PASSED 7/8/08!!:yeah:
