Pocket PC, Palm, Blackberry, (which to purchase?)

I am in my last year of FNP school & I will begin my clinicals in May. Our instructor suggested that we think about purchasing a Pocket Pc, Palm, etc.... for clinicals to use as one of our resources. I have no idea which one to purchase. Which one do you recommend/use? Any (+) or (-) experiences with one that you purchased?

Thanks!

I like the Palm Centro.

I used a Dell Axim v51 and still do today. Love it. It's a pocket pc and while it's not being made anymore, it's still faster than most pocketpc's out there.

I have an HP ipaq which is a stand alone PDA and a Samsung Omnia which is a pda phone. I like them both. I prefer the ipaq for reference use, because the screen is bigger and I can write/type things on it easier. However, I usually carry the omnia with me because it is easier to carry one device instead of two.

It really depends on what you will be using it for. I have a Palm by Tungsten. The Palm and Pocket PC both have the capability of using microsoft office (power point, word, excel).... I had thought about buying a Blackberry back in the fall and decided against it when I found out I couldnt use those programs on it. I am now debating on which "smart phone" to get............. I am just tired of carrying around a palm AND a cell phone.

There is a forum of nothing but pda's/blackberrys etc... tons of good information there about the pros and cons of each one, as well as programs.

I too have been looking into getting either a pda or pocket pc... I had made up my mine to go with a palm... from what I had read and heard they were 'better' for medical stuff... So I sat with the card in hand.. and low and behold... it isn't compatible with Vista 64 bit os... CRAP!!! guess what version of vista I have? :bluecry1: So I am back to research... to which I can't find an answer... So any help you find on which to purchase...

Thanks,

I have a Palm Treo (650 I believe??) and just love it! The calendar function is amazing and it pulls up my reference program (Pepid) quickly and easily. I have played with my brother's Blackberry and find the calendar function on the Blackberry to be not as user friendly and I feel the same way about the iphone.

I have a verizon palm centro and love it. No problems - has a memory card, my phone, all in one. Now if I could just get rid of my pager....

I agree with Pug, iPhone is THE way to go. I just graduated last year, had an Axim for about 6 months, hated it. Bought a Palm Tx, loved it, but hated carrying a phone and a PDA, so...my choices seemed between a Treo and iPhone. Tried both, my fingers could not handle the Treo. Skyscape seems more responsive and certainly reads easier on the iPhone. Palm is about dead. Cannot deny, the iPhone both acts and looks svelt. I even got my wife to buy one! Good luck in clinicals!

I have a palm TX and love it. Although, I did come across some places not wanting me to use it due to Hippa

also...if you choose palm products be aware that Skyscape products tend to go nuts on them for some reason when you download new programs. I had to continuously reload my programs every time I bought a new program. I finally got all I wanted from them and no more probs but then it started again when I updated. I would have to ask for a patch every time and got tired of it so bought no more. The skyscape guy tried to blame palm but it has something to do with the way they set up theri software to run on palm. I don't know, might not happen to everyone but I wanted to mention.
