Pocket PC, Palm, Blackberry, (which to purchase?)

Published

I am in my last year of FNP school & I will begin my clinicals in May. Our instructor suggested that we think about purchasing a Pocket Pc, Palm, etc.... for clinicals to use as one of our resources. I have no idea which one to purchase. Which one do you recommend/use? Any (+) or (-) experiences with one that you purchased?

Thanks!

JC

Can you be more specific about which palm you are referring to...palm texas I think...

I have the Palm TX

I would love to get the iPhone if I had the phone service which it requires. My husband's company uses Verizon, and I get an exceptional discount with the package deal that they have..... :(

I have a Nokia E71 which is great but I can't use Epocrates on it. I'm wondering if I should just get a palm device for Epocrates.

Skyscape supports my Nokia E71 so goodby Epocrates.:yeah:

i'm 3rd semester rn student. i, to say the least am overwhelmed with everything as far as studying, hw load, classroom and now clinicals (starting). i am wondering about a pocket pc for myself too. i have a smart phone (sprint) but i want something i can use at school, for school work (drug cards mostly) but can take to hospital too. we are not allowed to use our phones at hosp./clinicals. so i am looking for pocket pc, not a phone. the only program i know i want so for is davis drug guide, but i need more of a pc then a phone. any sugs?

The issue with using the phones in the hospital is the WiFi. iPhones cannot turn that off (as of 2 years ago). Most other phones have a selection to turn of the WiFi and the 2G/3G/4G. In addition to Davis Drug guide I would suggest looking over Skyscape.com. The have a lot of programs that you may find useful.

With regards to not taking something to a clinical or hospital, is it because of the camera, wi-fi, or phone? If it is not the camera then I would recommend a current model iPod touch. If it is because of the camera then I would recommend a third generation iPod touch. They run pretty much all of the current medical apps, don't have a camera, and can be found for a reasonable price used.

On Ipods and iPhones you can turn the wi-fi off or even go into "airplane mode".

Interesting that this thread was resurrected. Since my previous post two years ago I have been through two iPhones and now use a Mytouch 4G (android). It has been nice watching the competition drive innovation. Of course the downside is wanting them all!

Lol - I was thinking to myself how much this thread has evolved in just two years!

I use my iPhone 4 but I'm out in the clinics all day and have no rules about phones.

The iPhones that I've had (3g and now 4) can both have the wifi turned off.
