University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing - CRNA entrance stats

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello all,

I am an aspiring CRNA applicant. The school I really want to get into for CRNA school is Pitt. It is ranked as one of the best programs and is extremely difficult to get into. My question is for those of you out there who have applied to Pitt in the last 5-8 years and been either accepted or rejected--what are your stats--GPA, GRE, ICU experience, etc. I've looked over all the posts for CRNA acceptance stats in general--but am more interested in Pitt specifically--I can't find many stats for Pitts program other than Pitt receives about 200 applications for 48 seats. I just want to know if I currently have a fighting chance of getting into Pitt. My stats are:

Overall GPA: 3.46

Nursing GPA 3.9 (Accelerated BSN program at Pitt)

BS in Neuroscience and BSN in nursing.

10 graduate level nursing credits with GPA 4.0.

GRE: 1310, V-610, M--700, A--4.5

1-1.5 year in 22-bed surgical/trauma ICU by program start.

CCRN by program start--but won't be eligible to take before application deadline.

BCLS/ACLS

Thanks for your input!

Hi!

I am currently a student at Pitt and want to let you know to please apply. Pitt has strong acceptance criteria, but from judging my classmates, it's a lot more than merely your GPA.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Pitt at this point. I am so grateful I was accepted and so grateful I have decided to go. The director is absolutely amazing and considering how much we interact with him, it's worth enjoying your director. He taught me to intubate and place a spinal personally.

That said. Apply to the program with your stats. Write a great looking resume and a great looking essay. Call the program and ask if you can take a tour of the facilities and meet with someone in the program before the application deadline. I have no idea if they will do this, but it doesn't hurt to show interest in a program. If you get an interview, come dressed appropriately, be friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. I have no idea what admission criteria they use and we have hardly discussed our GPA or GRE scores from our pasts. Not a single one of my classmates is cocky or arrogant. We are all down to earth humble people who have a strong personality and a strong sense of determination, fire, and direction. They are absolutely not looking for applicants who know everything. They will teach you everything they want you to know.

The interview is very comfortable for the most part. The faculty is amazing. So far I'm really impressed with the program and hands down think it deserves to be where it is.

Good luck!

I just noticed you did your BSN at Pitt?

If so, work your contacts. I have several classmates who did their undergraduate at Pitt.

"1-1.5 year experience by start" seems to mean "virtually no experience before interview."

Unless I am miscalculating, I think you should wait.

Specializes in Anesthesia.

I know people who have gotten into Pitt's program w/ 1 yr experience by the time the program starts. Your stats are good. They will take you if you interview well.

Well I just found out I got accepted to Pitt's program starting fall 2012!!! Thank you for the words of encouragement--I'm very glad I applied instead of waiting an extra year!

Congratulations on your acceptance into Pitt! I also interviewed in December and am hoping to hear from them soon. Did they call you? Wish me luck!

Yes--I just received a call yesterday. I didn't expect it since they told us they wouldn't be letting most of us know until after the march interviews. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info. I was not really expecting to hear anything until March, but was hopeful that I might hear something earlier b/c they said some people would find out during the first two weeks of January. I guess I will just need to wait until March. :)

Specializes in Primary Care; Child Advocacy; Child Abuse; ED.

Congrats! I have such a long way to go but it is nice to see someone achieve their goals!

Hi CRNA applicant! I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about UPitt's CRNA school/interview process? I'm in a very similar boat as you and am planning to apply. I tried to PM you but it won't let me so I know this is a long shot but I'm hoping you see this post!
