University of Pittsburgh CRNA Spring 2023

Sorta surprised that there is no post for this current application for Pitt, especially since the application deadline is a month away. Decided to make this thread for people looking to discuss the application process.

Anyone applying to Pitt? I made a last minute decision to apply just a few days ago, so I'm trying to get all of my things in order to submit on time, haha.

Specializes in CVICU.

Following! I’m applying at the end of this week after I tackle the GRE. Good luck everyone!

I applied for the 2/15 deadline and interviewed last week. Faculty said we should have an answer by June at the latest. Eagerly waiting ?

Congrats! I hope you get in! Is it still virtual or did you go to campus? Also, you mind sharing your stats and some insight on the interview process? (Clinical vs. emotional questions, format, etc)

Congrats! That’s awesome news. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your GRE? I know this school more than most weigh heavy on the score haha.

Interviewed in February and just got my acceptance call this morning!

Congrats! Would you be open to giving some info on your stats (including GRE)?

Would love to! Science GPA was a weakness of mine due to a bad semester in school where I ended up getting a C in Phys due to some personal circumstances, so I really tried to make the rest of my app stand out:

- Cum GPA: 3.54. Science GPA: like 2.93

- GRE: 312, verbal 3.5

- Retook A&P in January and received an A. Began an advanced graduate level pathophysiology course in March. This bumped my science GPA above 3.0

- 4.5 years ICU / RN experience. 2 in a MICU and 2.5 in a general ICU (surgical/neuro/trauma/medical). Charge nurse a for the last 1.5 years and fill in as rapid response team

- Was an undergrad research assistant in college and have 3 publications I’m co-author of, presented at 2 conferences

- Involved in 4 committees at work and began an EBP research project with my unit educator

- Have been volunteering at a free medical clinic for some time now.

I’m happy to report that grades aren’t everything! I tried to prove that through my GRE score and personal achievements.

Just got my acceptance call!

Here are some of my stats:

GPA: 3.73 (nursing), 3.36 overall

GRE: 316 combined, 4.0 verbal

Experience: about 2.5 years level I Cardiac ICU

Leadership: class president, chair of 2 unit committees, preceptor, unit education & meeting participation

Research: not published, but included projects completed in nursing school and in nurse residency on my resume

Certification: BLS/ACLS/PALS, no CCRN when I applied

Interview was virtual and mostly EQ questions with a few critical thinking scenarios. There was a meet and greet to learn about the program first thing in the morning. Applicants were assigned an interview start time prior to interview day. The actual interview consisted of meeting with 5 different panels for about 15-minutes each. There was a wrap up in the afternoon to address any unanswered questions. Despite the virtual setup, things ran very smoothly. The director said there's a certain point threshold to meet to qualify for an interview and acceptance.

Good luck!
