Specializes in SRNA3.

Hello everyone,

I figured since there isn’t a thread yet for the Spring 2022 cohort for Pittsburgh that I would make one!  I just need to take my GRE and I’ll submit my application in a couple of days.   Excited to go through this with all of you!

Best,

Paul Gonzales BSN, RN, CCRN

Specializes in SRNA.

Hi Paul, my name is Ana and I'm applying to this cohort as well. I am so excited for this process. I've been working toward this for a long time. Good luck on the GRE ?

Andy!  Congrats on making into the program.   Just curious, is that an option to enter in as part time?   Or were you just taking classes part time, and using that as class credit for the upcoming cohort?   Do you need to apply separately for that?  Do those classes count towards your DNP?

Hi Andy, could you please tell us your stats/ experience? If you interviewed, can you tell us about that Thanks? Thanks in advance ☺

Specializes in ICU.

Hi everyone! I’m a current first year DNP-Nurse Anesthesia student at Pitt and would love to help you guys along this intimidating application process ? first, my stats:

-GPA: 3.7 cumulative

-experience: 5 years as an RN, 2.5 years in a high-acuity level 1 ICU

-leadership experience: charge nurse occasionally, precepted BSN students, was on the infection prevention committee at my old hospital.

- GRE: 312 combined

-No real experience with QI or research but helped peripherally on a unit-based project in my ICU.

- I didn’t take the CCRN or get any other certifications except BLS/ACLS/PALS (which I had)

Good luck to everyone applying! Pitt is awesome, the faculty is super supportive and I’m so thankful to be in their program.

Thanks. The program starts January, Spring semester. Once accepted there is an option to take classes early, which are off loaded from the DNP nurse anesthesia curriculum. There is no separate application. There is no option to be part time while actually in the program. Keep in mind that processes may change, and my experience may not reflect yours. Send me a DM  if you have any specific questions.

Sure.
GPA: 3.7+ Average
3 years ICU, 8 years RN total at time of application

5 Board certs

charge, precept, etc

Department and hospital committees: 5+

volunteer work (in and out of health care)

no research experience

Attendance of annual SRNA seminars from local universities.

GRE 307 ish

In my opinion, my academic record is not stellar or highly competitive. I think my experience and all the extra achievements outside academia were my redeeming qualities.

Interview was online and questions were typical of anesthesia programs. I’d rather not comment on the lay out as it may change for you. But in general, I found the faculty to be professional and kind,  and the flow to be well structured . You also get to talk to current students. Be ready to elaborate on your potential DNP Project. Why anesthesia. Why Pitt. Be your best and true self.
