Physiology...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Is it just me or is Physiology so much harder than Anatomy? I've taken big 2 tests so far and haven't done too good on either one and I've studied my rear end off for both of them. I think the teacher is trying to get us to do critical thinking and I'm not doing very well at it. I've still got a B and I'm already accepted into a nursing program but ...what if I can't do critical thinking?!? Aaaaccckkkk! I'm getting a little nervous that if I can't critical think in physiology will I be able to once I get into my nursing classes? Anybody else experiencing this?

yeah In Physiology you have to actually think. Anatomy was mostly memorization. Physio for me was easier. It varies though. you are already accepted to a program so I wouldn't even worry so much.

I had a harder time with anatomy than I did with physiology, although ultimately I studied my tail off for both classes and received As in both.. I find straight memorization to be more difficult than learning and applying concepts. However, my anatomy professor told us that most people drop a letter grade from anatomy to physiology. I talked to several classmates who found physiology to be much more difficult.

For me personally, physiology is much easier. That's probably because it's more interesting to me, so I study more. ;) And my instructor for physiology is MUCH better than my anatomy instructor last semester.

You can try some new study techniques - I love watching animations on YouTube or my textbook publisher's accompanying website for physio - or you could try audio recording lecture and re-listening to it, flashcards, outlining, underlining in the text, working from the questions at the beginning/end of each chapter...sometimes you have to change up the way you study for different classes.

Either way, congrats on starting your nursing program in the fall - and if nothing else, just keep your physio grade high enough, get through it, and get on with nursing school! :) Best of luck!

It depends on your learning style. As others have said, Anatomy depends more on memorization, where physiology depends more on understanding processes. So, if you're a good memorizer, Anatomy will be a snap and physiology might be a tougher class. I'm a lousy memorizer, so for me anatomy was more challenging that physiology.

I think that I work more on memorizing since alot of the information is new to me. I'm gonna have to work out a different way of studying. I feel like I know the stuff but the tests kick my rear. Thanks for the input everybody!!

For me, it helps to explain it to someone else. Since my roomates weren't thrilled with the idea of learning human physiology.....that often meant me teaching the material to pets or stuffed animals :-)

yeah, I tried to explain it to my son who was sooooo not interested. lol I might have to corner the dogs. lol

I like physiology much better. Anatomy is bad for me because our labs are set-up by the devil.

I totally relate! Anatomy was so much easier for me. I got an A in Anatomy, and right now I'm pulling a B in Physiology. I'm really discouraged because I've been studying my butt off too, ugh! Our instructor said you cannot let the material get away from you and to review every night. I have to admit I've been kind of lazy when it comes to reviewing every night... I can see now that I am going to have to change my study habits and with only 2 exams left & a comprehensive final I don't have much wiggle room, lol!

I think you'll be fine when you get into nursing school. I wouldn't worry too much... your critical thinking will improve more and more with practice!

Hang in there! Keep studying and you'll do great!! And know that you're not alone ;)

I double the youtube videos. That helped a lot. I also like the physiology coloring book. I like coloring... :)

I've always found physiology to be harder and more work. Since you are already accepted, I would not worry about it. Just maintain your B at least. You will be fine.
