Just posted on a thread about people being scared of clowns, as my dd is.

just wonderin, does anyone else have a phobia?

i do, it's birds, am absolutely and totally terrified of them, from a budgie to an eagle, they all scare the bejeesus out of me. Can't pass a pidgeon..(yuk..fearless critters), and I will go out of my way to avoid the scary chickens at the kiddos farmyard.

Is anyone else so irrationally scared of anything, or am I the only big scaredy cat here??? BTW...birds are a hard thing to avoid, they are everywhere, and I can scan an area in seconds to make sure there are none around before I know it's safe to go in or out!!

Seriously, it's a very inhibiting thing, a phobia, and it's getting worse, not better with age!

I loathe drains... Sink drains, shower drains, pool drains, you name it I hate it if water swirls around it and goes into the ground. I'm also not a big fan of flying, even though I do it pretty frequently, and elevators freak me out if I'm going up or down more than a few stories... ugh, I'm shuddering just thinking about it!

My Teenage Son Driving!!!!!!

I Am Going Grey Quickly And My Right Leg Is Numb From Pressing My Imaginary Brake!!!!!!!

I have had a horrible phobia of headwounds for years. Just the insinuation in a movie (gun to someone's head etc.) was enough to make me dizzy, and my heart pound. Since I've decided to go into nursing, I figured I'd better fix it. A friend of mine who's about to finish his grad program in counseling suggested this book (I apologize if I'm not allowed to post this. I swear I'm not getting paid to promote the book or anything!):

I've been sloooowly desensitizing myself, as suggested by the book.

At first it was hard just to peek for a second at a minor abrasion on someone's head. Now I can handle most headwound images, including video footage of actual brain surgeries. I still can't handle absurdly graphic headwounds in movies (no Scanners for me!) but I'm getting there.

pigeons: when I was younger, a neighbor threw a wounded pigeon at me. I've been terrified ever since.

Above ground NYC trains: I keep thinking, if this train falls off the track, I'm dead, there's nothing I can do about it.

Elevators: just a fear that the cords will break and I will fail to my death. This goes through my mind everytime I get on one.

planes: fear of plane diving to our deaths, and not be able to do anything to stop it.

those darn street rats: Every since I saw the movie (Deadly Eyes, I think), my fear has been that these rats will grow and eat us all. (Silly, I know)

I have a phobia of being a charge nurse. :o

Spiders, heights and creepy old dolls. I guess when I was around 3, I bounced down to my grandma's basement where she had been trying to clean up some old dolls so they were all sitting out (some with missing limbs and mildew over their eyes). My mom says it scared the crud out of me and I ran screaming up the steps, thus creating an aversion to creepy old dolls (especially the old bisque dolls with teeth--UGH).

BIRDS!!! I hate birds! :uhoh21: they scare me to death, those little beaks, the spindly yucky legs, the flapping wings! Just thinking about them makes my heart pound. My grandma had a mad rooster when we were kids that use to chase us and peck at our feet, thank god she 'took care' of that bird if you get my drift! I've also had a bird land on my head, scared me stiff i couldn't even move!

I'm also afraid of heights. I have a vaulted ceiling in my house and when we first moved in I couldn't even look up at the ceiling without getting dizzy. (i've gotten use to that now after 7 yrs). standing ona chair or a step stool to get something off of a high shelf even makes me woozy and make my stomach do flips!:barf02:

:sofahider:yeahthat: OMG, imagine a bird landing on your head! You poor thing...I would just have died on the spot.! Yes, I posted that birds are also my phobia..any flappy winged creatures, I cant stand! Moths are really bad..the flapping at your head..yuk! But the beaks on birds...ooohhhh they look pure evil!!

I have an aversion to cold wet tea bags, as I imagine them to feel like birds..weird, I know

I am terrified of deep dark water apparently! I went with my boyfriend down to key west to snorkel and at the second site the water was about 30 feet deep and very very dark. I freaked out and started crying in the middle of the water and had to have him swim with me back to the boat where I stayed for the rest of the trip. :uhoh21: I think it is a fear of the unknown swimming around me and underneath me. Freaks me out.

I also am terrified of heights and cockroaches. Those things are so creepy and gross! :crying2:

Just wondering...does anyone dream about their phobias? I've got a few: rats, roaches, heights and elevators. For some darned reason I dream about elevators quite frequently. It's not always the same dream, just stupid, crazy dreams that don't make a bit of sense but involve me being inside an elevator. I've done it as long as I can remember and it creeps me out for a few hours after waking up. Crazy, huh?

I can ride an elevator for just a few floors while getting quite anxious, holding my breath, having palpatations, etc. But I can't for the life of me ride those huge ones that go way up or are made of glass or hang on the outside of a building (don't even like talking about those). I've had my hotel room assignment changed many times when I saw the monster (I mean elevator) that I had to ride! I wonder what happened to me in my past life? Ha!

I have always had dreams of going over big bridges and the bridge collapsing.....and it has happened to those poor people (I forget where it was)

I just don't like to cross bridges (over water) the big ones...the small ones don't bother me, I figure I can live through that...

And of course I live on the coast and have to cross several to go to work !!!!!!!

 those ********* spiders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish they would all die.
