Ideal nursing position? I'm leaning towards Labor and Delivery right now

Why you chose nursing? Flexible Career that will work well with my family (when I have it), I hate my traditional "desk job"

I'm in a 2 year program and am applying to the program for next Fall Woo Hoo!!!!

i am a full time student.

single, 22 year old mom to a four and a half year old girl .

i have an associate's degree in liberal arts that i received back in december 2000.

i finally made up my mind for my senior capstone and the area i would love to do after i graduate and that is work in the neonatal intensive care unit.

i choose nursing because of the horrible experiences i had when i was a patient when i had my daughter back in 97. i also choose nursing for other reasons too, i started exploring medical stuff and reading medical books and thought the health care area was pretty interesting (still is) and i wanted a job that would offer diversity, flexibility and stabilitiy. nursing does offer those 3 things. you get tired of one area or it is not what you thought there are so many other areas you can choose from both within the hospital and outside the hospital. the pay won't make me rich but as a single mom i will be able to provide a decent life for myself and my daughter. instead of some minimum wage job which hardly supports one person.

other things to know, i am tired already in it is barely the 6th week of school. i am in my senior year and will graduate with my bsn on may 18th, 2003. i am so excited, i can't wait. :D

hey I just wanted to mention that we have a meet and greet post stuck at the top for new students.

have a great day

Specializes in Adult Med-Surg, Rehab, and Ambulatory Care.

Full or Part time student? Part-time

Do you work and go to school? Yes, I consider my position as SAHM a full-time job ;)

Age? 30

Single or Married? Married for 9 years to my soul mate

Children (if yes ages?) Ayup - 2 girls, ages 7 and 9, and a 7-month-old son

Other degrees? I have so many credits to my name but none organized into a degree. LOL When I first graduated high school I changed my major so many times it wasn't funny.

Ideal nursing position? Labor and Delivery!!

Why you chose nursing? When I was pregnant with my first child I became fascinated by the changes that were going on in my body and the development of the baby...when I was in labor I thought my nurse was a goddess. :) ...obstetrics positively intrigues me, I think babies are wonderful, and I want to be a part of all that.

And anything else you want to share... I tend to talk too much but I'm basically a nice person.

Full or Part time student? part time, all i have left is nursing classes

Do you work and go to school? i am employeed prn as a nurse tech but i rarely work while classes are going on

Age? 32

Single or Married? technically single although SO and i have lived together for 4 years

Children (if yes ages?) yes, 2 boys. 11 years old and 2 years old

Other degrees? not at this time

Ideal nursing position? ER

Why you chose nursing? it's all i can ever remember "wanting to be when i grow up", i'm good at it, i'll never be without a job.

I am a full time student.

No, I don't work

I am 25 years old, married, and have a daugher who is 4 and a son who is 18 months.

I am in the RN year of my program (and I am counting down until I graduate in May...) I really really want to do labor and delivery and have been on my best behavior on that unit when I have my clinicals. Other areas of interest are ICU and med-surg.

I chose nursing because of the nurse who I saw at my prenatal appts. with my daughter. She was so informative and took the time to really talk to me about my concerns and fears. She was great with therapeutic communication.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Full or Part time student? Full-time

Do you work and go to school? Not this semester. I worked fulltime last semester, and I plan to Extern next semester.

Age? 31

Single or Married? Married -- 12 years

Children (if yes ages?) 3 of them, boy 11, girl 5, boy 3 (all have birthdays in the next 2 months)

Other degrees? AA General Studies, BA Social Science

Ideal nursing position? Peds--any peds except OR, or Ped Oncology

Why did you chose nursing? Many reasons...I have worked for 11 years in a "caring profession"--child care. I feel nursing is another "caring profession" (or at least ideally it is). My oldest child is a cancer survivor and is austistic. My husband has medical issues. My life experiences just led me to this.

Full or Part time student? Part Time Evenings

Do you work and go to school? Both.. Work full time. school PT

Age? 28

Single or Married? Married

Children (if yes ages?) none

Other degrees? Business Management

Ideal nursing position? I think I would like ICU. I am not sure if anything is idea.

Why you chose nursing? I constantly want to be challenged. I cant stand sitting at a desk anymore. I feel that I have been "called". I know.. sounds corny.

And anything else you want to share...

I haven't enrolled in my nursing school courses yet.. Just taking the pre reqs.. I am having a lot of anxiety about this decision.....

I think I will need to pray.
