Hello everyone!
I took the NCLEX RN last Aug 23, 2014 at 8AM. It was my first take on the exam, and was understandably anxious (and scared) to start and get over with it. We arrived an hour and a half before the start time. I checked-in and was assisted by a fine, old gentleman. I got to start the exam earlier than scheduled (they allow it, as long as you are checked-in, you can immediately start). The tutorial sort of calmed my nerves but to my surprise I was trembling when I started reading the first question! It really helped a lot that you have control on your pacing, so I got comfortable as the exam went on. And so it was, my exam stopped after the 75th question. I finished the tutorial, exam and survey in two hours. OMG! Either I passed or failed miserably fast!
I have been reading about the pearson vue trick, how it works, etc. I planned to check on it an hour after the exam. I logged on to the pearson vue website and got the "good" pop-up. Oh my was I on cloud nine. Thank you Lord! Of course, I checked again after an hour or so, and still I got the good pop-up.
Now, it so happens that that day August 23, 2014, there was a scheduled website maintenance from 5:00-11:00PM CDT. True enough I couldn't access the site during those times. But the stubborn in me still couldn't resist checking the site after the said schedule. So I logged in again, but this time, pearson vue had a new "interface", the old one had the register option on the left. The new website had a "START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS" button right in the middle of the page.
I did try to register again, and do the pearson vue trick again. I answered the questions, etc...and then when I pressed the Next button, praying I would still get the "good" pop-up (to reaffirm my "unofficial" passing result), alas, it went straight to the credit card page!!! I felt shivers in my spine, OMG! "Does this mean I failed?", I thought. I was in denial. I thought, it probably was because they updated the website, after all, I still got the "good" pop-up before the scheduled maintenance. I guess I was just convincing myself at that point. I tried again and again and still went straight to the cc page, I was devastated. It didn't help that my result wasn't available that whole weekend. It was agonizing! Did I pass, did I fail? Waaaaaahhhhh!!
But then thank God for quick results, it was available this morning! I was ambivalent to check because I didn't know how would I react. But of course, I'm not the type who prolongs the agony. I went ahead and paid $7.95 and then the result was available on the next page... I PASSED!!! Praise the Lord!
After I finally got the "unofficial" passing result. I tried again to register for the exam...and still it lead to the cc page, even if I already passed!
Hence, based on my experience, the Pearson Vue trick cannot tell anymore whether you pass or fail after AUGUST 23, 2014. Even if you passed or failed, it will still let you start a registration process and lead you to the cc page. Thus, no more so-called "Pearson Vue Trick". I don't know if this is temporary or permanent, but what I know is that it changed when they had that website maintenance. Its sad that we can't rely anymore on this "trick" to reduce our anxiety and get a "quicker" "unofficial" result.
This just means that future takers of the NCLEX RN would have to rely on the "quick results" option (48 hours after the exam) or wait for their official results in the mail to know for sure what their result is.
I was wondering when Pearson Vue would pick up on this and realize how much potential $$$ they would be missing out on. If this is true, it looks like there will be no more good/bad pop up and everyone will now get charged the $200. Smart on their part.Unfortuantely, you won't get a refund. The $200 is non-refundable regardless if you already passed or not. It's in the terms you agree to when you hit submit.
Not true. I took my test last wednesday, and tried the PVT over 10 times (My nerves were getting to me). I kept getting the "Good" Pop-up, and was not charged once for my attempts.
This trick no longer works. A friend of mine was told recently at a nursing conference by a Pearson rep that this function has been disabled. Anyone and everyone can now register and reschedule the exam, regardless of whether or not they have passed the NCLEX. I found this out the hard way. I took the NCLEX-PN yesterday. The test shut off after 80 questions, and I felt miserable all the way home thinking I had failed. I read about the Pearson View Trick and tried it. I actually paid the $200 and rescheduled the exam. Then I talked to my friend who had just been to the conference and she told me what the Pearson rep said. She then said I could check the Arizona Board of Nursing website and see if my name had been added there yet. So I checked, and, lo and behold, the Arizona Board of Nursing has me listed as a Licensed Practical Nurse, effective Jan. 26, 2015. So I passed, but I'm out $200 thanks to misinformation posted on this and other sites. Hopefully I can get a refund.
It's the section of your quote that I put in bold that indicate what you did wrong....not that the PVT was wrong, YOU did it wrong, unless I'm reading what you wrote wrong. It looks like you took it yesterday, and tried the PVT yesterday as well? If so....there was your error.
Your friend is mistaken regarding the PVT and how it works; I'm not surprised, one look around this board on any given day will show you a dozen new postings of misinformation
NCLEX exams are scored twice. Once immediately upon concluding the exam, and once again sometime during the next 24 hours. The thing with PVT is that most people will do the trick too early, ONLY knowing what their first scoring was. In your case, your first score was a 'fail'; you voluntarily registered for another exam and paid that fee. It is not refundable (yet another reason we keep telling people to WAIT!). And, in your case, along with a small margin of others, your second score put you over the edge into 'pass', and you passed in the end. And you ARE out $200, as you agreed to the terms twice before you hit 'submit'.
MOST people do find that their end result is the same one they learned when they did the PVT, early or not. And it's why most people claim "it works right away!", within hours or minutes of leaving the testing site....and it really didn't. They just were ignorant of the fact that they still had one more scoring to go. C'est la vie!
I'm sorry you learned the hard way, but I do hope your post helps others to NOT pull that PVT trigger so fast! It's probably the single most-repeated caution on this board: do not do the thing until a full 24 hours has passed....or you know nothing and might find yourself out a couple hundred bucks
Good luck next time, though.
Took mine on the 28th of january, 2015. Took me straight to cc and inputed my cc information and my card decline. I strongly believe i failed because i waited 3 days to do the pvt. In my opinion if its attempting to charge me because i did not pass. It is what it is.
and hit submit. It said my card decline. I know i failed.

Can we pin this and add it to the end of every single one of these endless threads?
ImLicensed, I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. I am so grateful you've shared this story, though. So many people have blindly clicked submit, ignoring the warnings they've seen in countless threads here.
Congratulations on passing!

please I need to know if it means I passed or failed, I used the PVT and my credit card decline due to not enough money on it.

Welcome to AN! I see you're very new here, and probably don't realize you are posting on a very old thread, with much outdated information.
Please take a look around this board/forum, and you will see quite a lot about the PVT, what works and what doesn't.
Good luck!
Took the NCLEX-RN today. Stopped at 85. Felt like I was going to vomit all the time and can't eat and just wanna sleep. Tried the pearson vue trick after 12 hours (not sure if that's true or what), registered as if I'm going to take the exam again and got CHARGE 200$ on my CC and received an email to wait if the BON will send me ATT. So, basically... did I fail? I'm very very very depressed now. I thought 85 was a good sign.........

You should have waited 24 hours because it's graded twice...
