Hello everyone!
I took the NCLEX RN last Aug 23, 2014 at 8AM. It was my first take on the exam, and was understandably anxious (and scared) to start and get over with it. We arrived an hour and a half before the start time. I checked-in and was assisted by a fine, old gentleman. I got to start the exam earlier than scheduled (they allow it, as long as you are checked-in, you can immediately start). The tutorial sort of calmed my nerves but to my surprise I was trembling when I started reading the first question! It really helped a lot that you have control on your pacing, so I got comfortable as the exam went on. And so it was, my exam stopped after the 75th question. I finished the tutorial, exam and survey in two hours. OMG! Either I passed or failed miserably fast!
I have been reading about the pearson vue trick, how it works, etc. I planned to check on it an hour after the exam. I logged on to the pearson vue website and got the "good" pop-up. Oh my was I on cloud nine. Thank you Lord! Of course, I checked again after an hour or so, and still I got the good pop-up.
Now, it so happens that that day August 23, 2014, there was a scheduled website maintenance from 5:00-11:00PM CDT. True enough I couldn't access the site during those times. But the stubborn in me still couldn't resist checking the site after the said schedule. So I logged in again, but this time, pearson vue had a new "interface", the old one had the register option on the left. The new website had a "START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS" button right in the middle of the page.
I did try to register again, and do the pearson vue trick again. I answered the questions, etc...and then when I pressed the Next button, praying I would still get the "good" pop-up (to reaffirm my "unofficial" passing result), alas, it went straight to the credit card page!!! I felt shivers in my spine, OMG! "Does this mean I failed?", I thought. I was in denial. I thought, it probably was because they updated the website, after all, I still got the "good" pop-up before the scheduled maintenance. I guess I was just convincing myself at that point. I tried again and again and still went straight to the cc page, I was devastated. It didn't help that my result wasn't available that whole weekend. It was agonizing! Did I pass, did I fail? Waaaaaahhhhh!!
But then thank God for quick results, it was available this morning! I was ambivalent to check because I didn't know how would I react. But of course, I'm not the type who prolongs the agony. I went ahead and paid $7.95 and then the result was available on the next page... I PASSED!!! Praise the Lord!
After I finally got the "unofficial" passing result. I tried again to register for the exam...and still it lead to the cc page, even if I already passed!
Hence, based on my experience, the Pearson Vue trick cannot tell anymore whether you pass or fail after AUGUST 23, 2014. Even if you passed or failed, it will still let you start a registration process and lead you to the cc page. Thus, no more so-called "Pearson Vue Trick". I don't know if this is temporary or permanent, but what I know is that it changed when they had that website maintenance. Its sad that we can't rely anymore on this "trick" to reduce our anxiety and get a "quicker" "unofficial" result.
This just means that future takers of the NCLEX RN would have to rely on the "quick results" option (48 hours after the exam) or wait for their official results in the mail to know for sure what their result is.
Yes, I thought I failed too and I checked my state board of nursing site and posted my license today. It is a stupid trick to rely on. Yes, I worried too, but have to hold on and be brave. Seriously the test did not test anything serious. Silliest most head twisting exam I ever took. I finished at 75 in 3.5 hours. I also took day dreaming pee breaks and had lots of akathesia movements lol which I sort of faked to burn off the stress energy from choosing ridiculous answers. But all in all I passed.
All I used was
1. Lacharity Priority and Delegation Must do book or you will fail, I assure you.
2. Kaplan 7 qbank tests were ok not all that great. scored between 50%-75% on these
3. Saunders comp review and the cd.
4. Mosbys cd only
5. Exam Cram was kind of nice too with challenging upper level questions
6. Tea and Coffee and times
I failed the first time which I prepared for 2 weeks thinking the questions would be same as in nursing school. Boy I was wrong.
Then 45 days of remediation, I kicked butt and passed.
Everyone will pass. Don't pray, study. Like the Jews say "God helps those who help themselves."
Fight the exam, tackle it, don't let it deter you. Anxiety will be there no matter what, but if you covered all topics, you should be familiar with every choice they give. Sometimes answers may feel unsure, but use elimination methods, ABC's, maslows hierchy etc...
Test is totally doable.
The only terrible part is they are choosing the longer generic names for meds. So we all know narcan, but they will put nalxone. We all know zoloft but they will put promethzine. We all know flagyl, but they used metronidazole which I can't even pronounce. I mean its silly. Why choose the crazy long name. Are they testing lets fail people or does this person really know the drug. They should just be fair list generic and brand name and no games. But the good thing is I only had 3 questions on strick meds. Tons of priority and delegation questions and atleast 3 insulins questions.
1 key thing helped is remembering 1 unit of insulin is 15g carbs so when you see patient takes 40U before breakfast and bedtime. Ding ding should ring a bell way too much and can cause hyoglycemia at night time especially. So studying as much as you can. You have no idea what may help. Oh and know lab values like easy because it helped a million.
i took the test yesterday me and my friend, i failed using a declined card, my friend used the same card i used and she got the good pop up so i think it really works, wether u have enough money or don't have enough.
And I think it's painfully obvious you haven't read anything that's been posted on this topic (like, hundreds of times over) explaining what you don't know, don't understand about how the testing works.
You can even scroll up just a few posts on this very same thread to learn what you don't know.

Hello people. I'm new to this website, I feel better by just reading the comments here. Its been 48 hours for me an I still don't have result on my quick result. I tried the PVT 2 times, I used an invalid card and a insufficient fund card. I have same replied from the pearson to contact my card provider. meaning NO "GOOD POP UP" for me. the waiting time is killing me. I will update you guys what will happened next. Im in Florida by the way. Thanks
The trick still works...you now have to put in cc info and click submit order and if it decline or accept your payment u most likely fail whether you have enough money on your card or not as long as its a valid card..but if u get the pop up after u click submit order u more than likely passed and another way to find out if u have temporary license after u had graduated and they still available on the BON website then you most likely pass because if you failed they immediately removed the temporary license
Does this board utilize stickies? Perhaps the admins can create a sticky for the NCLEX discussion topic that explains that the PVT may not be 100% accurate, list the reasons why, and the disclaimer to proceed at your own risk. This way admins and others do not have to waste time correcting every other poster's comments and bemoaning claims that "the PVT trick does work" and that posters do not take the time to read 32 pages of comments before posting a comment. (Unless some secretly like doing this.) Since I ocassionally peruse the site and use my phone to do so, I may miss some features, so excuse me if my post conveys an ignorance of the site (putting my hands in the air in the "don't shoot" stance).

I bet people would still post topics about it, unless there is a rule that they are all referred to the the sticky and the new thread is immediately closed. I wish we could just ban PVT threads altogether, especially after the harrowing amount of people admitting to fraud by willingly using cards they know have no funds to back them just in order to get an answer more quickly.

I see your confusion about CAT, and raise you a point
The computer testing is done twice; the second time is ALSO computerized. It's never a person that does it. So how is it that a result can be overturned? That's because there are a good number of people who fall 'on the line' of passing or failing. They really are THAT close to either passing or failing---not decidedly one way or the other, to a satisfactory percentage according to the scoring system--and a second set of CAT-designed scoring takes place. The computer determination is complex and incredibly frustrating to those who want to know their "grade", and there just isn't one!
Someone who 'appears' to be a fail, let's say, after the first round of scoring trials (and then uses the blasted PVT) will see that they have the option to register for another exam (at least for the moment, although they never seem to consider that it's JUST for that moment) and bang: they believe they have failed. And CAN register a second time.
Then the computer goes through the machinations of the scoring process all over again, and on this go-through: it's erring on the side of pass. Yay, Test Taker! But then that same Test Taker, having been spared the crushing humiliation of failing this exam, then complains that they should have the registration fee they essentially donated, refunded to them. Kinda seems ungrateful, if you look at it that way (and I really don't, but it's a consideration).
People who rely on tricks, glitches, and guesswork should not be indignant when the trick failed, the glitch is corrected, and the guesswork was wrong. But hey, that's just my take on this whole thing! :)
Best of luck to you.....and welcome to this really insane, wild ride called Nursing
