Hello everyone!
I took the NCLEX RN last Aug 23, 2014 at 8AM. It was my first take on the exam, and was understandably anxious (and scared) to start and get over with it. We arrived an hour and a half before the start time. I checked-in and was assisted by a fine, old gentleman. I got to start the exam earlier than scheduled (they allow it, as long as you are checked-in, you can immediately start). The tutorial sort of calmed my nerves but to my surprise I was trembling when I started reading the first question! It really helped a lot that you have control on your pacing, so I got comfortable as the exam went on. And so it was, my exam stopped after the 75th question. I finished the tutorial, exam and survey in two hours. OMG! Either I passed or failed miserably fast!
I have been reading about the pearson vue trick, how it works, etc. I planned to check on it an hour after the exam. I logged on to the pearson vue website and got the "good" pop-up. Oh my was I on cloud nine. Thank you Lord! Of course, I checked again after an hour or so, and still I got the good pop-up.
Now, it so happens that that day August 23, 2014, there was a scheduled website maintenance from 5:00-11:00PM CDT. True enough I couldn't access the site during those times. But the stubborn in me still couldn't resist checking the site after the said schedule. So I logged in again, but this time, pearson vue had a new "interface", the old one had the register option on the left. The new website had a "START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS" button right in the middle of the page.
I did try to register again, and do the pearson vue trick again. I answered the questions, etc...and then when I pressed the Next button, praying I would still get the "good" pop-up (to reaffirm my "unofficial" passing result), alas, it went straight to the credit card page!!! I felt shivers in my spine, OMG! "Does this mean I failed?", I thought. I was in denial. I thought, it probably was because they updated the website, after all, I still got the "good" pop-up before the scheduled maintenance. I guess I was just convincing myself at that point. I tried again and again and still went straight to the cc page, I was devastated. It didn't help that my result wasn't available that whole weekend. It was agonizing! Did I pass, did I fail? Waaaaaahhhhh!!
But then thank God for quick results, it was available this morning! I was ambivalent to check because I didn't know how would I react. But of course, I'm not the type who prolongs the agony. I went ahead and paid $7.95 and then the result was available on the next page... I PASSED!!! Praise the Lord!
After I finally got the "unofficial" passing result. I tried again to register for the exam...and still it lead to the cc page, even if I already passed!
Hence, based on my experience, the Pearson Vue trick cannot tell anymore whether you pass or fail after AUGUST 23, 2014. Even if you passed or failed, it will still let you start a registration process and lead you to the cc page. Thus, no more so-called "Pearson Vue Trick". I don't know if this is temporary or permanent, but what I know is that it changed when they had that website maintenance. Its sad that we can't rely anymore on this "trick" to reduce our anxiety and get a "quicker" "unofficial" result.
This just means that future takers of the NCLEX RN would have to rely on the "quick results" option (48 hours after the exam) or wait for their official results in the mail to know for sure what their result is.
Tell your friend not to give up, I pass on my 3rd try. I had the same thing happen. My 1st time I did 265 questions and failed. It really messed with my head. The second time all I thought about was my first test and had a straight panic attack during my 2nd attempt. The 3rd I had a much clearer head and passed. Tell her to do the NCSBN review
So the PVT nearly gave me a heart attack today. I hadn't heard about the change. This is what happened. I was nervous about not getting there in time, because the center is 1 1/2 hours away from me. So I ended up getting there 2 hours early. I decided to go on in the building instead of sit in the car. They were nice, and asked me if I wanted to start the test early. ABSOLUTELY!!! I didn't even know they could do that.
So my test stopped at 85 (I'm LPN, not RN testing). I was so deflated because I had so many SATA questions. Every time another came up I muttered under my breath, "You HAVE to be kidding me!" It was because of the SATA questions that I thought I must have faiiled at the 85 cut off.
ANYWAY, I went to my car and (because I hadn't heard it had changed) did the PVT. I sat there in shock when it went to the credit card payment page. They used to say when it did that that you failed. So I went home thinking I'd failed. But then I started looking around this forum and saw people talking about the recent change. They said that you had to submit a credit card to see the trick now. Since I don't have the money to waste, I used an expired prepaid card I had leftover from Christmas to submit. When I tried to submit it I got the good pop up! So it appears they have changed it so that you have to submit a card number to see the trick. My quick view results are not back yet, so I will report back once I can see those. I would highly recommend if you can't wait to go buy a $25 prepaid visa, dump $24 in a tank of gas or something, and try to use it to see your results. It worked for me. I wonder how many people this change has given heart attacks to? lol

One word of caution: when using "bad" cards, cards with insufficient (or no) funds, it's not unusual to get the message that your card has been declined. All this means is that an attempt was made to charge your card (as it was authorized, after all) but it does not indicate pass or fail. If you are attempting this before 24 hours has passed, you could be in between scorings (it is scored twice) and therefore think you passed when you failed, or failed when you passed.
The trick works for most, but most absolutely not all.....and people are unfortunately accepting jobs based on "I PASSED!" when they did not....and feeling crushed that they failed, when they did not.
Good luck to all!
Ok so I took my test on October 23rd at 8a.m and went all 265 questions. Although I know that the number of questions doesn't indicate a pass or fail, I was still nervous and wanted to try the trick. I noticed the layout looked different and wasn't able to do the same set of steps for the trick that I used back in January for my LPN. I then found this forum and read every response. It seemed that the trick worked for most people and for those that it didn't, they weren't specific enough about the steps that they took for me to consider them part of the "pool" for this experiment. There was one in particular that had said they thought they passed and their credit card was charged but they never came back to this forum to confirm that they did indeed pass and were charged. Anyway until this very latest post I also had not read anything about
Although it is a fact that tests are scored twice (via Pearson website fact page) I had not heard of anyone getting the newgood pop up before 24 hours and then subsequently failing. However being on the fiscal side of things I still thought it was a good idea to use a rebate card with only $15 left on it in case this was the case. I tried at 8 pm on the 23rd and got the good pop up and then 8am on the 24th with the same card and got the same good pop up. (I realize that both of these were inside 24 hours I just didn't think to try again because I hadn't read the post above yet.) Today (October 25th) at 7a.m my quick results were in and I payed the $7.95 (which is a total racket IMO, it's a computer program and it cost absolutely nothing to show quick results and therefore should be free but whatever) and found out that I passed!! So all in all the results worked for me."If you are attempting this before 24 hours has passed, you could be in between scorings (it is scored twice) and therefore think you passed when you failed, or failed when you passed."
Theoretically I would think that this new trick results should work just like the old one. For instance this was my second time taking the RN NCLEX and third time taking the NCLEX over all (counting january's lpn nclex). The first time I took the LPN one I did the old trick and the $7.95 quick results and confirmed like all the other graduates that the trick did work and paying $7.95 was kind of worthless. The second time I took the NCLEX (first RN attempt) I walked out pretty much knowing I had failed did the trick and went straight to the credit card page (this was when the old trick was still valid). Because I was darn near positive I had failed I didn't waste $7.95 to find out and instead waited for the mail. Sure enough I failed, but it's important to note Pearson did not get any extra money out of me. My theory is that people weren't really bothering with the quick results as much because the trick was so accurate, so in an attempt to keep their $7.95 profit from all the test takers they changed the layout so that now the trick is still valid but if you fail then they are at least guaranteed $200 out of you right then. That's my theory at the moment anyway, they are a business after all. I did read somewhere that they were tired of answering phone calls about the trick and that's why they changed it, which could totally be an extra perk of changing it but I think the initial reason was motivated by money.
Anyway, glad I passed and to those of you in California who have to wait all that time, my heart goes out to you, because that is indeed a total racket.
Good luck everyone!! :)

Congrats for having passed, and for surviving this insane process :)
I quoted your words above, just to mention that I have been following this saga closely, and I can assure you I absolutely HAVE 'heard' of this very thing. I can't possibly even try to locate them again (how many hundreds of posts on this topic??) but I remember one in particular. One in which someone wrote that she and her friend both played 'the trick' and both got 'good popups' that would indicate they passed. They could not register for another exam, therefore....the assumption that everyone derives from that is "I PASSED!!" Happily for the one writing the post, she did....but her friend found out she had ultimately failed--unfortunately, after accepting a new grad position The failure was a surprise because her attempts to pay were within the FIRST scoring period, and the computer had placed her as 'pass' at that point. It wasn't until the final scoring was complete that the truth came out....sorry for her, at any rate.
These boards are chock full of people saying things like "everyone in my class did this and it worked" or "I never heard of anyone that it didn't work for"...as if that were a reasonable scientific study, and all conclusions could be validly drawn from it. And, of course, they DO know better, if they put those newly-learned critical thinking skills to the test
It's a business. And like any business, they will certainly not turn away free money from people who INSIST on throwing it at them, despite all warnings to the contrary.
Thank you! I'm so relieved! :) So slightly off topic... (I do believe that you read it btw and yes there were a ton of posts on this thread and it's probably not the only thread about it so I wouldn't expect you to go find that specific post, that would be way too time consuming) Why would the computer grade someone as a pass and then the second grading grade them as a fail? I was thinking about this after I read Pearson's twice grading blurb and I was hopeful that it meant for those the computer failed, a real person would go back over it to make sure they were failed justly... not the other way around. It just seems silly, I would think the whole point of using a CAT would be so that everyone is tested the same while still keeping the integrity of the test so that no one person has the same exact test. So regardless of whether the trick works or not, I just couldn't believe that you could pass the test via the computer and then have some person (I'm assuming it's a person that looks over it again not another computer) come along and say whoops sorry never-mind?
Again not that it matters for me anymore and maybe I just have too much faith in technology but if a computer said I passed and then a person came along and said I didn't? I'd be super mad . It just doesn't seem logical to me is all.
Anyway thanks again for your input, and being so courteous! I always love a good level headed discussion :)

Ok let me tell you from my experience. Me and my friend both took the NCLEX RN Monday Sept 29 2014 and we both tried the PVT trick. For me the records said its on hold and hers went through. I find out I passed today on the website and she still doesnt seen her name on it. SO THE PVT does work! I tried it with a old card thats deactivated and it wouldnt go through. She tried it with the same card and for it said the card is invalid. Than she put in her card and they accepted her payment. I stopped at 250 and she stopped at 265 getting her last question wrong since we did research on it. I hope this helps but I AM SO HAPPY I PASSED and wish she had passed too but I will study with her until she does!!! Good luck to every one else. I am going to sleep now but will come back on Friday to post what i studied and some notes which helped me so much! Good night everyone and again GOOD LUCK!
