PBCC-palm beach comm. college

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

I'll take your advice. Thanks alot, Kim!!!

My advice for pharmacology is to really study and learn both divisions of the nervous system and what side effects they produce.....it apply to all most every drug. And of course as Kim said.....read and study, study, study.

I think that my problem is that I'll answer a question on the test and will narrow the answers down to two choices and I end up picking the wrong choice. It's just a matter of understanding the physiology, side effects of the drug and than "thinking critically" to see which answer has the most impact. Thanks for your advice, ginmarada!

WOOOOTTT! I got back my NLN scores today!

Made 99th percentile for all degree seeking programs overall and 98th in the associate seeking programs! :)

MrMedical & Cassie,

When taking the NLN is it best to answer every question even if you don't know the answer or to answer only the ones you know?

How did you study?

For the test, I went through an answered every one I could, then went back and worked on the one's that troubled me. I believe you get a penalty if you leave unanswered questions.

Studywise, for the vocab it comes down to whether you know the words or not, so make sure to brush up on the words in the study book. The vocab is not necessarily medical-oriented.

Math is a matter of just understanding and remembering how to execute equations. Practice, practice, practice is until you can do the computations is ease.

For science, I pulled out my old physics, chem, bio, and anatomy books and did a brief overview of each relevant article.

Finally, use the NLN study book to pull it all together. Good luck!

Yes! You can at least narrow it down and have a 50/50 shot at getting it right. And the proctor told us that we would not be penalized for incorrect answers.

I only studied from the NLN guide. If I had to do it over again, I would focus more on the math. Fraction problems killed my time! Instead I obsessed over the physics chapter since I have zero knowledge of that area. Should have focused on a chapter that I could master!

Are you taking the exam soon?

Your biggest enemy with the NLN is time. You must pace yourself, and finish all the questions within the time given. I'm not saying to rush, but you need to push yourself. Any unanswered question is a throw-away, and if you are a forced at the last second to make guesses do not "Christmas tree" the answer sheet. I have always found that your best chance of guessing correctly to at least some of the final questions is to answer them all the same, as in all "a" ar all "c". Although statistics tells us that the probabilities are the same any way you guess, the same answers have always worked out in my favor. Just always be aware of the time, because some proctors will give you a "5 minutes left" and some won't. When I took it, I burned through the math as fast as I could, and I only had 2 minutes left when I finished. Luckily, I got them all correct. Whatever you do, don't go back to the previous section to fill in blanks after the next session has started. They kicked a girl out for doing that when I took it. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Does anyone know anything about the Tenet Health scholarship?

Does anyone know anything about the Tenet Health scholarship?

The only one that was disscussed with our class was the HCA scholarship.

Thanks, purplevega. I found a reference to it in this post from Dec 2008. Since it's over a year and a half old, I was hoping that someone might have some more recent information on it.

Hi fellow PBCC students-

Im new to the site and I was wondering if anyone took the pre-reqs at Lake Worth campus? I wanted to know of any good and helpful professors :) Any info would be greatly appreciated! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks,

Ness

Hey everyone. I haven't posted in a while. Too busy studying. Well, I just finished the last of all of my pre and co-requisites this Summer term. I actually cranked them out and took 17 credit hours over the summer, AND worked full time, AND traveled for work, AND I have a wife and two kids, AND I am in a band on the weekends...so forgive me but I just HAVE to pat myself on the back...considering I earned 4 A's and 3 B's. Anyway, I am scheduled to take the NLN September 11th. Looking forward to completing the last piece of the puzzle.

I need to apply for the night part time program because of work and I can't afford to quit my job while going to school. I did awesome in all of my pre and co-requisites, but unfortunately I have a bunch of classes from 10 years ago that I didn't do so hot in and they are bringing my GPA down to a 3. I hate not having that extra point and there isn't really anything I can do about it, so I really need to nail the NLN to maximize my points. How is everyone else on points? If I do well on the NLN then I will have 27.97 points, but I fear not getting in after killing myself to make the classes before the cutoff for the application. Also, I just pulled the application from the web and there is now a point for NUR 1024 Critical Thinking for Nursing...WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???? If I knew this, then I would have taken it THIS SUMMER!!! Not cool adding another point, just like that!
