  1. How long did it take for you to know you were a hospice nurse?
  2. I work under a DSME program at a local health dept. I also helped create my portion of the program. The biggest issue I see in you plan is getting clients to a huge time commitment. I personal have a hard time getting some clients to see me once a month and I do home visit. I would say 40% of my clients are compliant and keep appt with me. The other 60% often reschedule or are not home. Some clients will need weekly intervention to help them stay on track. Most need a few initial visits to get the ball rolling and follow ups to continue the plan of care. You will have to see how your population is and what they are willing to do. Support groups are great especially if it is built into to your program. Good luck. Our communities really do need this DSME teaching.
  3. Update- worked summer came for 8 weeks. My children came. The youngest was a day camper and slept with me at night. My older one slept in tha cabin. It was an amazing experience and am planning on next summer all ready. Thanks everyone for the help.
  4. I am very interested in doing camp nursing this summer, somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains! What should I expect in asking to bring my children with me. Should I even try and do my first summer nursing at a camp with my children present? Also does anyone know any camps that will let an almost 6 year old come? Thanks Kim
  5. I am not sure what my points were, it was almost 2 years ago. I believe it was close to 30. You are right the pre reqs are a breeze compared to nur classes. Total different way of learning. Memorizing will not help you. You need to understand the material and know how to use it. It is all critical thinking. Good luck. I highly recommend evening weekend if you can swing the points. I started out full time and begged for a transfer. It saved my sanity. Search old posts for points listing. Or call and ask what the points cut off was this year.
  6. Also you must factor in Sims, eval, aznd NSA days which happen throughout the years.
  7. I am an evening weekend student. We have classes on Thursdays during lecture semester with a hybrid componet due online on Saturday. Our clinical semesters are 12 weeks of clinic each Saturday from 7a-7:30p. No summers off for us. Full time lectures are mostly in the morning except 1st semester which the classes are in the afternoon. You can do online which would require no lecture face to face meetings. You will still have skills 1st and 2nd semester. It varies each semester when they are offered. 1st and 2nd semester clinicals are 2 half days offered M and T either morning or afternoon, 6.5 hours each. 3rd semester is one 12 unknown day. 4th is preceptorship and you follow their schedual. You can not go back and forth between full and evening weekend. You get one change of class for all 4 semester and this is not a given. You have to write a letter to Kelly Bassel and she must approve it. It does not always happen. You also only get 1 fail. 2 fails and you are out. The smartest people I know have failed because they have too much on their plate. HTH Kim
  8. Also you can take out loans.
  9. Most people do work while in nursing school. More then anything you will need help with your daughter. Good luck.
  10. Go to the pbsc website and watch the orentation video under the nursing section. It will help you answer all your questions. HTH Kim
  11. I heard last semster was a very high points to get in. I think full time was 28. something. Full time excepts 100 people and part time excepts 30 people. Have you done your pre reqs? Kim
  12. It is going good. I have 2 more weeks of break before we start back again. It is alot of reading and studing but I find it very interesting. Kim
  13. I took evening clinicals last semester and really enjoyed them. Congrads everyone.
  14. It took 3 weeks for us to see the change on patherweb. We saw the change on panther web a few days before the exceptance letters. Good luck. kim
  15. The only one that was disscussed with our class was the HCA scholarship.
