1/3 of my paycheck goes to tax!

Im dissapointed they deduct so much in my paycheck every 2 weeks. I dont even make that much since I have less than a year experience. Then when I think about those patients that come to the hospital treating me like their own personal servant and on govt insurance. I get irritated. Why? The taxes they deduct on my hard earned paycheck contributes to this patient's hospital stay and in return, this patient treats me like his personal servant. So im paying him so he can treat me like his personal servant. Does anyone feels this way? Not all pt are like this, but theres a couple every shift.

I work in a large inner city hospital,am raped and pillaged each week for $500 in taxes.

The clientele?.... crackheads, crackwhores, gun shot wounds... etc.

You better believe they know the "customer service" mantra and expect the finest of treatment.... on MY dime.

You pay more in taxes, the more money that you make-its relative. And the more money that you make, your bracket changes. With that change comes loss of credits and deductions. And my DH is a six figure income person, and when July rolls around his SS deductions end, and I only notice an extra 400 or so.

Since that public assistance that they tax you for pays the pts hospital bill, you're also paying yourself.

Wonder what will happen to facilities and our jobs when they finally kill medicare and medicaid.

But, who are those 48-51% who pay not taxes? It's a serious question, not a sarcastic one.

Are they kids, stay-at-home parents, nonworking elderly whose income is so low they are freed from a tax burden?

Well, kids are generally tax payers anyway, so we can eliminate them. And just because a parent stays at home, doesn't mean there isn't income from somewhere. They should get a free pass on whatever their income is just because they stay at home?

Some people are legitimately in the no tax bracket. Many others are not. The bracket continues to be adjusted upward, so that fewer and fewer people pay for the upkeep of more and more people.

There is a very good reason that medicare, medicaid, and SS are sacred cows. If those fail, a whole domino effect will occur that is too scary to imagine.

What? Your original post said 48%-51% of the population do not pay federal income taxes.

Most kids under the age of 14 don't work; a stay-at-home parent doesn't work, as the definition of SAHP implies a non-working parent. Neither pay federal income taxes, but they are a part of the population. The working parent does, but I would assume that he/she is counted in the nearly 50% that does work, while the rest of the family does not.

You're going to have to explain this to me. I'm not understanding what you are saying.

Okay, I concede part of it on a technicality. Does it really matter, though, in the big picture? Even if children are counted in the non-paying 48%, why should the rest of us help pay for their upbringing? I may be wrong, but I always thought it was the parents' responsibility to feed, clothe and house them.

I have way too much on my plate today to research this for you....but I stand by my premise that too many people do not pay federal income taxes and that leaves a huge burden for those us that do.

Nevermind. I googled. You meant "households." My bad.

Well, we also pay heck of a lot less in income taxes because we have a mortgage, I went to school in the past year, we shovel $1400 a month toward a tax-deferred retirement plan, we have a healthcare spending account (usable for my kids' orthodontic work), health insurance payments are pre-tax, and I cashed in inherited mutual funds at a key time and recorded a capital gains loss on money handed to me. None of those things is related to kids.

Would it upset you that my effective tax rate last year (percentage of an 85K AGI) was only 4%? We're not even "rich" by anyone's standards!

Not enough. Send more.

33% taxes is just the beginning my friend. Let's not forget, you get taxed on what you make, taxed on what you spend, taxed on what you own (car, house) and if you happen to be able to save a couple nickles after all of that, you get taxed on any interest accrued.

so true.

and furthermore, us single people don't get a break for marraige or kids. I am very lucky to have a 401K...I just pray that the market doesn't take a nose dive when it's time to retire. My parents lost so much money, and unfortunately don't have many working years left to make up the difference.

Yup.....33% and rising.

yet those of us suffering from evil socialised healthcare are playing the same or less ... and getting access to the services we pay for.
