Okay, how many of you here on allnurses pay for parking? We do at my hospital, and I can't fathom charging employees...

Hi!

At my hospital, as well as that one where my wife works, there is a free parking lot for staff. Also at the previous hospital in whom I've worked I didn't pay for parking.

I admit that I don't know the situation of others italian hospital but I've heard that in some hospital the parking lot isn't free.

But when I was student I have had to pay for parking in the hospitals in whom I did internship (the university in whom I graduated has more hospitals where the students do their internship).

My experience has been mixed. Currently, I don't have to pay ... but I have had to pay in previous jobs.

Never heard of this. Just a long walk from staff lot to the hospital. Even the doctors lot is a bit of a walk

When I worked as an aide for the hospital in the town I grew up in, parking was free. When I worked as a nurse at a large urban academic medical center, parking cost $120 a month to park in a satellite garage that was rented from a local university and take a shuttle bus to the hospital. Night shifters were allowed to park in the garage across the street. I used public transportation when I worked in said hospital, as the hospital subsidized the cost of the monthly pass and it was 1/4 of the cost of parking. When I worked nights, I also drove and parked on the street/in metered spots because the meters didn't operate from 6P-8A. The city has since extended the meters' hours until 8P so that wouldn't work anymore, but at least you could get away with only paying for an hour of it.

Now, I work in home care and my company reimburses me if I see a patient for whom I have to pay for parking. And for mileage.

I would park by the meters when I was the early open heart anesthesia nurse the tickets were cheaper than the paid parking and I didn't have to wait an hour to get to my car....LOL

I don't think that would be the case nowadays... cheapest parking ticket in Boston is like $40.

Yes, I pay, for every hour that they pay me,including sick and vacation days. I might be in hawaii but I'm pay ing for my stall in Canada.

I live in NC and the major hospitals here require paid parking. Even worse, some employees as well as nursing students are not allowed to park in the decks and are required to pay to park and ride at an offsite location. The bus has you to arrive 45 min before shift...if you are just a few minutes late from the house you will miss report! Oh, and while I was in nursing school we could use a deck a few blocks away for $2 an hour, that is $20 a day!! It was a mess! If you are caught in the hospital deck you are ticketed and towed! Because of that, I would never give working there a second thought!

$144/month here . . . unless you're night shift. Then you park for free.

I pay. The hospital I work at doesn't own their their parking garages. It's not a huge amount though.

I think our garages cost upwards of $75/month, though we offer shuttle services from parking lots further away to have a less expensive option.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I pay $18 every 2 weeks. It seems excessive. Here's the thing: the hospital does not get that money... There's a separate company that runs the lot, does the upkeep of it, and runs the "toll booths" (not sure what you call the thing where people sit and collect the fees/make the arm go up so we can get through lol)
