Onto Phase II

Published

Passed Foundations in Nursing Practice this morning. A lot of select all questions were on my test. I thought this was by far the easiest of Phase I. I focused more on the content guide and my older books from LPN school rather than SG101 alone. I found some errors in the SG101 study guide as well. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Congrats im going to ask you for advice since you are ahead of me in all the tests

I'm reviewing my SG101 notes right now and found this...

"African Americans often respond better to ACE inhibitors for hypertension than whites do"

That's an error.

Make sure you notify the SG101 folks of the error, they appreciate student feedback very much. Or they did when I was a student, I'm sure that hasn't changed. :)

DIRECT QUOTE FROM CONTENT GUIDE:

e. Review pharmacological agents and degree of efficacy in patient’s genetic group (for example: African Americans often respond better to ACE inhibitors when combined with a diuretic for hypertension than whites do. According to Excelsior.

Congratulations. I hope to be there by month's end.

Pharmacology book says African Americans do not respond well to ACE. Ive contacted Excelsior las Lt week about it on their study giude as well. What page on the SG 101was the drugs on? I read it three times and never read it. Thanks

Nibbles1 - Thank you so much for your error report. Although the medications are interlaced throughout the sensory section, flashcards, and quizzes, we will be adding a separate page with the medications only - including side effects, contraindications, and nursing interventions. We will also incorporate the definition of legally blind in the study guide. As to the ACE inhibitors note, we must go by the EC post until they see fit to correct it.

Guys was there plenty of pharmacology questions on this test? I am taking this test soon and I am freaking out.

Yes, plenty of questions. Nibbles said their were 4 questions on pharmacology, I must have had at least 15 questions on pharmacology. You don't have to know every aspect of every drug but you have to know what they're for, mechanisms of action, side effects and trade and generic names. Know mydriatics, miotics, cycloplegics, beta agonists, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and definitely know opioids. Most of my pharmacology questions were opioids. This test was not that bad, not a lot of physiology (which I love) and a lot of holistic/communication stuff.

I had maybe four select all that apply questions.

Thank you for your response. I am actually good with pharmacology questions. So there are several versions of their test? Everyone gets different questions... I had no select all for Health Safety. I was lucky!

Where are you now medic85907?

It is a test bank just like the nclex..some questions may repeat but no test is the same. If you had no SATA you'll make up for it later :-) My LS 3 had over 20 on it

I'm done with phase 1, now onto phase II, hoping to be done by the last week of August. As Ahiman said, they all come from a test bank. There's some serious algorithms involved in adaptive testing, which I'm pretty sure Excelsior uses. I personally love it. If you know how it works, you can play it to your advantage in the way you take the test.

If you start seeing a lot of the same questions, slow down, think, go back to what you know and don't over think everything. If the questions are getting progressively harder, smile and chill cause you're testing like Einstein. If the test gets progressively easier, slow down, think rationally and take a breath, you're screwing up. Each Excelsior exam I've taken has gotten progressively harder as the exam goes on, so I'm pretty sure they're adaptive. At one point I read a question and said "***", when you see those towards the end, you're doing fine

Thank you guys for responding. I guess we will all be done at the same time. I want to finish all my exams by August or September.

I hope those test are CAT nclex style test questions. They are testing out out knowledge to see if we really know the material. I feel much better now.
