Need advise new job - sketchy - Can a circulating tech be a medical assistant?
A little HX about me... I worked in an operating room in a major hospital as a nursing assistant while attending LPN school. When I became a LPN in 2013, my manager at the hospital told me that I could no longer be a scrub nurse in the operating room. Hospitals here in NYC were mandated to send scrub techs to get their certifications in order to work in the operating room. Unfortunately, I had to leave because as an LPN I could only do a nursing assistant job in the OR. As an LPN, I got hired at an ambulatory surgery center working in the pre-op and recovery room and still there now as an RN. My concern now is: I ventured out to see what's out there and I got called from a plastic surgery center. I will be doing pre-op and post-op care. The general manager in the interview told me that the circulator in the OR is a medical assistant. I never heard of such thing. I've been working surgery for over 5 years now and I have always seen an RN as a circulator, a surgical tech assisting the surgeon, a CRNA or anesthesiologist, and a surgeon or attending assisting in the surgery. Then he said "the CRNA are contracted so as soon as the surgeries are done they are walking out the door, so you, and the surgeon are in charge of that patient." At my current job we have an in-house anesthesiologist group so if we have any concern we bring it up to them right away and they come and assess the patient. I am a new RN. I want to make sure that this new facility is complaint and they are not doing anything sketchy. I cannot jeopardize the license that I worked so hard for. What do you think?

Fired from my first RN job after only 2 weeks.
Do yourself a favor DO NOT PUT in your application this experience. You were short changed and it wouldn't be fair for you to explain this situation in an interview. There are two sides to a story. It usually takes a new grad to find a job about six months. Don't give up and keep applying.

RN Nclex Exam computer shut-off between 90-100 questions has anyone ever failed with that
Sorry to hear. You are using an amazing program. Make sure you do all the trainers on kaplan and you are doing the Qbank in between trainers. After failing the NCLEX-RN in August I was devastated and felt like a big failure. I got my head up, changed my strategy from (uworld to kaplan), and made sure I understood what the questions was really asking me, and I read every rationale. What worked for me might not work for you but you have to find what makes you more comfortable when studying for the NCLEX-RN My grades on kaplan were around 50-60's. Predictor 61%. Don't focus on your grades. Focus on understanding how to answer the question. I passed last week. Just 45 days after failing the first time. Study and you too will be an RN soon. Cheers.

HELP with LPN NCLEX
I was an LPN and passed the NCLEX-PN first time around. I used ATI testing program to pass the NLCEX-PN. Do you know what your are having problems with? Is it content or learning how to answer the questions? I suppose you already completed a vigorous LPN program which prepared you for the NCLEX. Focus on how to answer the questions. Remember ADPIE, ABC, and MASLOW. You assess before you implement. If after implementation your interventions did not work you will report it to the RN or Doctor. Use your ABC (air, breathing, circulation). The NCLEX-RN is another beast you cannot rely on just ADPIE, ABC, and MASLOW there is a lot more to it. I just passed the RN last weekend ;-) I used Kaplan and could have done it without them. Kaplan prepares you well to pass this test. Maybe you should try it. Good luck and don't stress. You will be a Nurse.

FINALLY I Passed my NCLEX-RN
I am with you - MK is the man!!! I passed the NCLEX too this passed weekend and let me tell you if you pay attention to him you will pass your test. If you know the basic there is no reason for failing the NCLEX-RN. I too didn't give up after failing the first time two months ago. I changed from UWORLD to Kaplan and it that worked out pretty well for me. Kaplan is magical - it really prepares you to answer all types of question. Good luck to all future testers. Believe in yourself and study hard!

Can you work as a Pre op nurse with an ADN degree instead of BSN?
As an LPN in NYC I work in an ambulatory orthopedic surgery center. I am the only LPN at my center and we have a mix of ADN-RN older nurse and ADN-RN nurses in school for their BSN. Private surgery center don't care about ADN or BSN. These type of centers are great for older and new nurses. I do admission (pre-op) with the RN in the room. I like this area best. I get to interview the patient: look at their health and history report, verify that the surgeon went over the consent form with the patient, and then make sure the anesthesiologist speaks with the patient prior to surgery. The final step is when the operating room nurse interviews the patient, checks the paper work, surgery site and takes the patient to the OR. In the recovery room I am limited to the skills that I can perform on the patient. I can help the RN connect the patients to the monitors. I can assist with positioning the patient and write down their vital signs in their medical record. Since their medications are administered through an IV line I cannot administer medications. Patient teaching is done by the RN but I can reinforce the teaching once the patient comes to the phase 2 of the recovery which is when they are stable, eating and ready to go home. If the patient is still in pain in phase 2 I can administer a PO pain medication. I like pre-op and post-op but after doing it for 3 years and recently upgrading to RN I think it's time to move to the operating room.

LPN to RN in Michigan with Excelsior
There are no papers for the associates in nursing. You have a choice to take the (tests) which comply of 120 questions per nursing course or take a (10-12 week class) online which compose of weekly 250 word discussions APA format and weekly quizzes, midterm and a final. I brought most of my credits to the school so I only had to take the nursing portion of the curriculum. 7 nursing courses, 2 tests which you enroll for, study on your own for 8 weeks, and then they open on week 8 and you take tests at home. After you are done with that the 1 year wait begins for the Clinical Performance Nursing Examination (CPNE). I applied in October 2016 and I tested in June 2017. I called and emailed everyday to see If could get a cancellation test date and I did. If you decide to go with the tests like I did for most of the classes - you study the material on your own for about 1-3 months and then you schedule the test at a Peasonvue testing site. What I liked most about the test is that you do it at your own pace and you scheduled the test whenever you felt ready. I will say do not underestimate this program the test were hard and you need to read the material they suggest and understand the concepts. The best way to get acquainted with the program is to speak to an advisor. They are very helpful and if you decide to enroll the same advisor will follow your path till the end of the program.

LPN to RN in Michigan with Excelsior
HIII, I am a recent graduate from Excelsior College ADN-RN June 2017. I don't know anything about the new requirements to get in as I enrolled right before all the changes in 2014. This program will challenge you and will shape you to be the best nurse that you could be. I am extremely thankful to this program which help me accomplish my dreams while I worked full-time as an LPN. I went to a traditional program and failed out. It was not doable to work full time and go to a traditional program. Please stay away from all the negativity that people write about the program. I listened to all these negative post and ended up completing the program a year later because I got discouraged and stopped mid-way. This program is not for a person that wants constant feedback from a professor. You are on your own studying to take tests. The final component of the schools' curriculum is the CPNE test. A 3 day clinical at a hospital were you have to show your nursing knowledge from nursing 101 - fundamentals ---Knowledge that you have when you finished LPN fundamental class. It's not a hard test but you have to know your stuff. The school will supply you with a manual for the CPNE which you will eat, breath, and sleep. Know that manual inside out and bring your charming humble self to that testing site and you will pass. Good luck. The sky is the limit. Dream like I did.

Thank you guys for responding. I guess we will all be done at the same time. I want to finish all my exams by August or September. I hope those test are CAT nclex style test questions. They are testing out out knowledge to see if we really know the material. I feel much better now.

Onto Phase II
Thank you for your response. I am actually good with pharmacology questions. So there are several versions of their test? Everyone gets different questions... I had no select all for Health Safety. I was lucky! Where are you now medic85907?
