Suny downstate absn 2018-2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello Everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for the 2018-2019 program at downstate? Hoping we can all loop each other in on the status.

When I was at the open house it seemed like many people still had pending grades for pre req courses. Considering no one here is in admissions it would be hard for any of us to say how competitive you are as an applicant. You could contact admissions or schedule an appointment for application advising if you are concerned and are able to go, but I don't think they really tell people their chances of getting in. The only way to really know is to apply, wait, and see. And we're all in that boat, so welcome!

I was at the open house and they told me that they would not forward my application until they receive all my pending grades. They told me that because I have more than 1 science courses pending, they will consider my application on a space available basis. It would look like I applied after the deadline.

Hello everyone, I'm planning to apply to this program. I still have to take the teas next week and submit my application. Does anyone of you have grades pending for this application? I have 4 pending prerequisites that I am doing now (I will finish them in December). I am a bit worried that I might not be a competitive applicant since I have 2 Science courses pending. Any advice is much appreciated.

From my understanding, the more completed your application is upon submission the better it works in your favor; however you shouldn't let that discourage you. You should apply and just submit all the pending courses after they're completed. You can submit those after you application has been submitted and they'll add them on to your application.

Has anybody gotten the "Update" email that said:

"Your application was received and processed and is now ready to be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. You will be notified in writing once a decision has been rendered."

When you've still got a group of missing prereqs? I originally got an email saying that my application would be on hold until I submitted a list of things. I submitted one (of five things I needed), then got the update and now I've managed to make myself paranoid enough to think that they made a typo and meant to say I'm still on hold

If you don't mind me asking, would you share the prerequisites that you are missing?

No problem! I'm taking dev psych in the spring; And I'll be submitting the grades for Microbio, English II, and Sociology II when the semester ends in December

You are only missing one major science course (microbiology). They will look at your application and make decisions based how well you've done in other courses. I have 2 major sciences courses missing (microbiology and chemistry) so they will not look at my application until I submit those courses in January.

Has anyone gotten any updates since submitting? My application was finally forwarded to the Admissions Committee & the app was completed on 11/4.

No update here. (I applied back in August) I was reading last years' thread, and the first people that heard back got an answer early December. The bulk of them heard back around Dec 27th, after the holidays

Ditto on the reply. My app was completed and forwarded as of sept 15...... just waiting

Hey y'all! I applied to this cycle of downstates ABSN program as well. I also applied in 2015 but my application wasn't complete because I couldn't take the TEAS in time (spots fill up so quickly!)

But I finally took the teas, scored well in all four sections, and have paid CNA experience to boot. I was accepted to SUNY farmingdale but their program is three years. I may go there if downstate takes too long to get back to me.

I submitted my application October 8 and got the email my application was forwarded to the committee. Haven't heard anything else; it's been about 6 weeks ! But the apps aren't due until 11/30 which is Thursday and they're the type of school to wait until everyone is in before getting back.

If I remember correctly, at the open house, they said they're doing interviews this year, I think.

That's interesting because they don't even mention interviews on their website. If that's the case, I wonder when they will begin calling folks for interviews. Seems like decisions won't be out soon.

Yea I'd be very surprised if they did interviews this year. I think I read somewhere that they do interviews if there are a LOT of applicants compared to previous years, and I didn't get the impression that that would be the case. You're definitely right though, there's no way any of us are hearing back until the application closes on the 30th.
