Suny downstate absn 2018-2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for the 2018-2019 program at downstate? Hoping we can all loop each other in on the status.

How did you register for the teas test did you pay before picking the day ?

Yes, you have to pay on the ATI TEAS website before you can register for a date. I purchased the TEASE Psi on the ATI website then I had to wait for an email that allowed me to actually register for the date of the test. Once I got that email, I registered for the date and time that worked for me (they show what dates are available on psiexams.com).

I heard the neighborhood of the school isn't very safe. Does anyone have more information on this? Thank you.

So I actually just went to the open house a couple weeks ago, and not gonna lie... the area is pretty hood. Didn't feel particularly safe, but that being said, there were PLENTY of police officers and SUNY security guards patrolling the area

Thank you. I guess every school has some safety concerns. Hope the area is improving.

I live pretty close to the school, it has its moments. Still pretty hood, the only thing "really" concerning might be the frequent flyers at the hospitals (usually intoxs looking for there next fix and homeless harassing you for money) the psych hospital is around the corner from school. Gets pretty rowdy on the weekend nights but plenty of cops and flood lights.... I know it sounds pretty concerning but I've lived here for about 16 months no incidents yet..

Also.... I know it is still really early but has any one heard anything? the wait is killing me

I applied for the program as well, and also went to the open house! I found it interesting how many people I was talking with while there were completing their prereq courses still. It worked out with my classes that I finished up in August, I didn't want to have anything outstanding on my application. I've so far heard back from SUNY Binghamton, but I don't think we hear back about our applications to Downstate until Jan/Feb (Though that's what Binghamton told me as well, so who knows for sure). They were saying at the open house that there are about 70 seats in the program, and so far they haven't received many applications as compared to previous years. Maybe it will be a little less competitive to get in this year?

Interesting. I also applied to Binghamton, did they reach out to you with a decision?

I got an email yesterday which said...

We are emailing you to let you know we have made an update(s) to your application status.

Sincerely,

Binghamton University Undergraduate Admissions

Then when I logged onto the status checker there was an acceptance letter. I feel like I submitted my application very early, so that might just be part of the rolling admissions. Best of luck to you though! It would be wonderful to know someone in my cohort before starting either program. Any idea which you are leaning toward more strongly?

That's awesome, congratulations!! Honestly, if I got into Binghamton, I might choose it over any other school because I already go to Binghamton so it would just be convenient for me, but it also depends which is the cheapest school that accepts me. Do you mind answering when you submitted your app for Binghamton and what're your stats? I applied around 9/22 and since I have one of the pre-requisites in progress right now, I don't think they'll make a decision for me until the semester is over.

I submitted my application in August, my final transcript reached them mid September. For my prereq classes I had almost all A's, one C+ in Chem 1 that I discussed with the admissions department. My undergrad GPA was a 3.23 but I went to a very high ranking university, and my prereqs I took after I graduated were all A's. I had all my prereq classes done before I applied. I also have a ton of volunteer hours with my EMT squad and a current position in healthcare in New York. I'm an older student, I got my BA in 2013, and since then has all been healthcare experience, so I think that likely worked in my favor as well.
