Suny downstate absn 2018-2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for the 2018-2019 program at downstate? Hoping we can all loop each other in on the status.

I have a question about the TEAS exam for Suny Downstate. If you score less than 80% on the science and math, should you just not apply at all? My current GPA for all my nursing prerequisites is 3.5, just trying to figure out if I should even apply or not. I already took the TEAS in September and got 74%. I'll be taking it again in a few weeks, hope I can score a bit higher.

Minimum requirement as per Downstate's website is:

The minimum acceptable passing scores for Math and Reading are 80%, a Science score of 80% is preferred.

The deadline to take or retake the ATI TEAS is November 30, 2018. An applicant may only retake the ATI TEAS once within an Admissions Cycle.

I highly recommend that you retake it because admission is very competitive, and I know that some of my classmates had perfect 100s for both math and reading.

Hey everyone, good luck to you all!

Does anybody know if there is an orientation for accepted students and when that usually is? I contacted the admissions office, but they just directed me to the website and I can't seem to find anything. Thanks!

Hi!

Wish I had found this thread sooner!

I submitted my application at the end of October; I just need to upload my exam scores.

I’ve been using multiple practice TEAS books but I found many of the reading passages were questioned to intentionally trip you up (I’ve also found a couple of errors in the math sections of practice tests, which is troubling to me!). Did you find the actual exam to be similar to practice tests you’ve taken?

It’s been weighing on me because I know a ton depends on that test. My undergrad grades were atrocious, but also from like 15 years ago. The math and science prereqs I’ve taken the last 2 years are better (3.8 gpa) so I’m hoping they take that into consideration, unlike a certain CUNY nursing program...

Good luck to everyone!

Hey. I found many errors especially in the math section of the official teas practice book.

To be perfectly honest, whether "Nic" stands for nicole or Nicolas will make a difference here. It seems like many nursing programs lower their threshold to try to get more male students in. Nothing overt, just a subtle nuance that if you're paying attention becomes apparent.

Teas is a bit of a joke. It's geared, in my opinion towards students finishing an associates, or fresh out of college.

You should easily be able to pull 80s or even 90s

The orientation is on the first day of class which is in May.

I’m female but unfortunately know about the male skew. I wonder if they aim for a certain number of male applicants per year.

Good luck!

My year, 2017-2018 had appx 20/70 males.

That is certainly well above the national average of 12% graduating male nurses annually.

Give them a reason to see you shine. Good luck!
