I have to work tonight, which means I'll get off tomorrow morning at 0730, drive for one hour, then fall into bed til I don't know when. Thank goodness, hubby like to cook Thanksgiving dinner! Hope I won't have to clean up the mess. I guess I could get up to eat some though, tee hee.

The only working I plan on doing is making dinner w/all the trimmings for my family, two military men who are away from home/family and a couple good friends. All the trimmings, so I will be up VERY early starting the turkey/stuffing.
I got lucky this year; only have to work New Years' Eve...worked Christmas last year. Got off lightly.
To all who must be at work on their holiday: may your shift be uneventful and your bellies full----(I hope they feed you!)
Happy Thanksgiving, Americans.

I work tonight and tomorrow night:(
Also x-mas eve and New Year's eve :(
Which translates to: I got the suckiest holiday schedule possible for a night shift employee in my unit.
Oh well, I'm going to try to make the best of it. We're having "snack food" tonight and the big dinner tomorrow. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us that we don't get any really sick patients and please, please no codes or floor crashes!!!

I will be working 3-11:30.Basically told if I chose not to work thanksgiving, they might not need me at all this week!: So I am working or no paycheck this week. Then to top it all off,the day shift politely asks if we would like to be in on the thanksgiving dinner.so we all say yes and hand over $5.00 each.then after all monies are collected, several comment"I'm sure there will be plenty of leftovers for your shift"It really doesn't matter to me if i eat there or not,but please!
THAT is tacky Dragonfly. UGH what a place to work!!! i am sorry...

Several reasons:
1. First year in a new hospital
2. Thanksgiving is not considered a holiday in terms of scheduling. We work six-week rotational schedules and if it falls on your rotation you have to work, seniority rules in terms of asking off. Unfortunately, my rotation includes every Wed., and 5/6 Thursdays, so for the duration of the time I work there, I will never have Thanksgiving off.
3. Antiquated x-mas/new year's policy. In theory, if you work one then you're off the other and then next year it will be the opposite. However, there are plenty of people working one or no holidays.
I, along with several of my co-workers, have taken alternative ideas to our "unit-based shared governance" meeting. But the best they can come up with is if you ask off for Thanksgiving one year, you can't ask off for it again the next year. So much for compromise.....

Doing my preceptorship on Thanksgiving and the day after. That's ok, one more week and it's all over, I can finally burn that tacky old nursing student uniform!

I work weekend alternative, but I agreed to come in tomorrow from 7a to 3p. It shouldn'y be too bad. When you are used to working 12 hr shifts, 8 hrs feels like 1/2 a day. :) Then it's off to Grandma's to eat! :)

We have people that are working all three this year...and not by choice, we have a new scheduler who pretty much kept everyone on their regular schedules...our schedules happen to fall where if you work one, you most likely work all three (thankfully I got LUCKY and don't have to work any...) But I worked all but new year's last year. I am actually picking up Thankgiving eve...it works out ok for me because I get 8 hours holiday pay, go home and sleep for the morning while my mommy cooks for the family. Then my husband and I will go and help set everything up and eat :)
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving...I hope those that work get free dinner (or at least pie!) and have an easy shift (and enjoy their coworkers)
