Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

Bumping this thread. How is everyone's finals going? I take my pharmacology final at 5 PM tomorrow and Med Surg and health assessment final on Thursday. [emoji30] I can't believe the first semester of nursing school is almost over!

I made a 90 on my health assessment exam [emoji3][emoji16][emoji4]

Fundamentals I final today, Health Assessment I final tomorrow. Despite that I'm just happy to be finally ready for clinicals

First semester was a whirlwind! But, I think I'm ending the semester with A's in both Pharm and Fundamentals! It all comes down to those freaking proctored ATI tests this week.....

JacAn: I hope your finals went well today! How long before you know your final grade?

wildwyo: congrats on your grades! They aren't starting ATI proctored exams for us until next semester, but I did have a couple of proctored ATI exams at my other school and remember how nerve wracking they were. Best of luck to you on those!

My last day was the 11th. A&P final was on the 9th. I was sitting at a 98% before the final and could miss 47 questions on the final an still get an A, so I wasn't too worried. I tried focusing more on Fundamentals. I was borderline B/A before the final. If I wanted an A in the class I had to get a 91 or better on the final. I felt it was a long shot especially as I didn't figure out how to study for my exams until the exam before the final which meant that I had the entire semesters worth of notes to go through and study the proper way. Basically note cards for important things to remember (that could be memorized - ie side effects of some meds, treatments, etc) and then read through the rest of the notes. I didn't finish my note cards until 2am the morning of. I somehow managed a 99, so got boosted up to an A. So 4.0 first semester. Though I don't anticipate it happening again as my coorifice load will be a lot more from here on out.

Thank you - I passed Fundamentals but I should find out the Overall grade on Friday. I got a C in

Economics- I'll take that C! I can honestly say I dislike economics and will be happy that I never have to take it again LOL

I have a Health Assessment HESI today. Then Xmas break, although the books will be out in between getting ready for Xmas

Hey everyone!! IT IS OFFICIAL -- SEMESTER ONE IS DONE!!!! =] =] =]

Ended with an A-, and an encouraging final clinical eval in which my instructor said she could definitely see me going on to advanced practice!! (happy dance, happy dance) Can't believe it's already over, but I'm soooooooooooooooo ready for a break!! Anybody want to share some tips they've gleaned from this first semester?

I was trying to figure out pros and cons.....I guess a pro would be focus more on the content covered in class as far as parameters of general knowledge....also, don't just know the basics but think of what you'd be seeing if the patient was presenting with signs of whatever it is you're studying. (in other words, don't just study "normal" presentation)

Cons? Well, we have several different professors who choose the questions for our tests, and sometimes the wording can be very ambiguous. I've learned the hard way---don't OVERthink it!!

Also, keeping previous exam notes/lessons sorted by topic is a good idea for studying for the comprehensive final.

Anyone else? =]

Merry Christmas to everyone (says the girl who hasn't even put up a tree or anything yet!!)

B for health assessment and fundamentals

So I passed my first semester of nursing school and second semester begins the 18th. I'm so excited and ready to kick some medsurg butt!!!

Second semester starts Monday. I'm already nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed. 14 credit hours. My stomach is in knots (though I found that I'm not the only one feeling this way). I'm mostly really nervous about med surg and learning the new skills. I'm just terrified I'm going to totally bomb everything.

There's so much pressure to pass - and I feel like even to do well. I feel like I set the bar high and that I need to keep above that. I got into the program by the skin of my teeth. The school essentially took a chance on me. I know I proved myself last semester, but I feel like I have to keep the highest grades possible to show them that they made a good choice by letting me in. After last semester with the baby and whatnot and then ending with a 4.0, I feel like my instructors will continue to expect that from me (I feel like I need to keep that 4.0 now). Plus my family. We're broke so I can go to school. If I don't do well, my family is screwed. Not only will I let my husband down, but my kids. My family, his family.

I've been struggling with postpartum depression, and I'm so scared about dealing with that and school. I'm on meds now and am doing reasonably well, but that's without the stress of school right now (and I'm still not 100%) and on top of marriage problems and trying to get the baby's medical issues sorted (nothing serious, but still really hard to handle on top of everything else).

I'm just really scared. My husband has faith that I'll get through just fine, but I'm still terrified. I'm afraid I'm going to buckle under the weight of everything. I can't take time off school. I have to get through this. No pressure.

Second semester starts on the 25th! For my first semester, I got a B in pharmacology and health assessment and a C in med surg. I hate that I got a C since I was so close to a B but I'm not even going to complain, it was a struggle. Lol.

I am coming to the end of yet another 8 weeks. It's been a tough session this time around, lots of college politics, lots of people dropping or failing and I'm ready to take the Fundamentals HESI and Health Assessment HESI and get on with beginning Adult Health (Med Surg 1) & Pharm 1. Loved my clinical and looking forward to the next clinical.

So, how is everyone else doing??
