Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.
How's everyone doing?
I'm assuming everyone is right around or in finals right now!
Tomorrow is my last final of the semester.
So far:
Nutrition: A
English 102: A
A&P II: Final grade shows A, but per my calculations of all scores given, B (she puts all scores online so we know what we have). I've emailed my instructor about the discrepancy. I was 13 points away from an A. I was 92% on the dot, so it wasn't really even a percentage that could've potentially been rounded. So now I'm waiting to hear back from her to see if there was something she included in my final grade that wasn't posted or if it was just a clerical error.
My nursing final is tomorrow. I'm hoping I do well. I should be okay. I've calculated how many I need right to pass, so I know it's definitely doable.
My last test for my Med-surg class is on Monday. With my program we are given the option of taking our NCLEX-PN after our second semester. I already put my application in to the state for licensure and will be doing my fingerprinting and paying Pearson in the next couple of days. Should be able to take my test by the beginning of June. This summer I will be working as an LPN and will finish up the rest of my program this next coming school year. Hard to believe that I am already at that point. Looking forward to getting to sleep in some over the next few weeks, between allergies and studying I am exhausted.
Hello everyone! Thought I'd add my update...
Took the final this morning, got an 89 which puts me at an 86 point something for the semester. Our program is not broken down into separate classes, it is all crammed into one and man is it intense!! I can't believe it's half-way done!! We have lost so many people since we all started back in August of last year, did I mention it's intense??!!! =p
Anyway, I'm kind of bummed that I couldn't keep it in "A" territory this semester but I'm very grateful to still be in the program. I got good evals from clinical instructors, and I did a solid job on the end-of-semester HESI review (NCLEX prep).
I hope everyone pipes up with how they're doing, I love the updates!!
Good luck to all, enjoy your summer!! =]

That's exciting Leonardsmom! And good luck on Monday!
MLDJ1970, Congrats! So it's basically one class with all of the different content - like you don't have to register for classes and whatnot?
I finished my med-surg final this morning. My official grades are:
Nutrition: A
English: A
A&P II: A (confirmed with instructor)
Med-surg: A
14 credit hours, and I'm spent! I know I may sound seriously silly, but I have so many mixed emotions right now. I feel like I don't deserve my grades. I don't know how many people didn't pass this semester, but I do know of one, and I feel so guilty, and I feel heartbroken for her.
I have the next two weeks "off" before summer semester, but there's really no such thing between the kids, picking up the slack around the house, and everything else I have going on during the next 2 weeks (2 appointments for my son, 3, so far, appointments for me, helping with t-shirts and decorations for relay for life, then doing relay for life, and then an arthritis walk my last weekend of break).
Exactly....for example one of our exams covered adult cardiovascular, peripheral vascular disease, respiratory, neurocognitive, abused child, anxiety and crisis, substance related and addictive disorders, and depressive disorders...while at the same time prepping all of our required paperwork (med sheets, diagnostic test summaries, diagnosis sheets, and nursing care plans) for our two clinical days each week... and working on a gigantic nursing process paper that was due a week after that exam.
I was just telling my husband I'd rather take 10 regular classes than keep up with the intensity of this program!! =] But I made it...and I'm amazed at how fast this first year flew by!! Just think, at this time next year I'll be doing marching practice for graduation!! (God willing)
Good luck with all that you have going on during your "break"!!
~Take care, MLDJ1970
How is everyone enjoying their summer? Just finished my first week of my summer Pharmacology class. It's easy peasy though.
How long is your summer semester?
This is week 3 of 10 (with the 10th being finals week) for Med surg 2, Psych nursing, and pathophysiology. And week 3 of 6 (last being our last exam) of life span psychology. It finally doesn't feel so overwhelming. It's still overwhelming, but there's so much to do that there's less time to focus on it being overwhelming.
I'm finding it easier to study and get my work done at school (too distracting at home) which pretty much means being there 7 days a week (I just got home from being at school for 15 hours between classes and care plan). I'm really enjoying it though. I miss my kids and hate that I can't see them as much as I'd like, but I'll get to enjoy them 24/7 for 3 weeks in between this semester and next.

It's only Pharmacology so it's 4 weeks, 3 times a week. So I only have about 10 actual classes left, even though I could easily see myself missing the last one or 2 (and still get an A, final is take home!)
I want to really enjoy this summer as it will be my last summer break before working, although I can't help but feel like it's going to slip through my fingers. So many things I want to do with my 2 kids.

Hey! Passed my first year of nursing school and I am sooooo enjoying having a break. This time next year, I will be graduated and taking the NCLEX. :) With as quickly as this first year flew by, it will be here in no time. Congrats to everyone else moving on to the next year!

22 days until my final. And in between then I have 2 quizzes, 1 lecture test, 1 Kaplan test, a care plan, a presentation and an essay. Fun times.
But then I'll only have a year left! It blows my mind that in just over 7 months I can start applying for jobs. As an GN. That's crazy to me.
