Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

Do you have a laptop and printer?

Yes I do, thanks for the suggestion! I splurged on the laptop though lol.

I needed a 3 hole puncher! thanks aspiringnursemw!

I bought all of mine too. My fundamentals text is new because we'll use it through to NCLEX, but the others I bought used since they're mostly just support texts. Orientation is the day before class starts and officially less than a month away!!

Graduating May 2015, assuming all goes well!

For text books I bought all of mine. The books that we are required to get are used through out multiple semesters of the program. With finding them on Amazon for good deals I spent about the same as I would if I had rented. I also like to highlight, at least I found it helpful when taking pharmacology this past spring semester. With the large reading assignments I found highlighting important information was very helpful when I would go back over the information for review.

I splurged on school supplies this past weekend. Several places had great deals on things such as single subject notebooks, paper folders and post it notes. I have enough stuff to set me for this entire year and maybe part of next year.

I also picked up a second planner to use for writing down reading assignments and any projects that I need to do. It is set up with the dates of the month but you fill in the day of the week. I might pick up another one to use for next year early if the set up works well. Should have a good idea of how it works by the end of September.

I have exactly three weeks left before everything starts. In some ways I don't want the summer to end, but than I am also ready to get started on school.

I still feel a little shocked that I'm even saying this, but I've been accepted with expected graduation May 2017!

I'm a late admit and classes start in just a few weeks. I have orientation next Friday followed by a mandatory meeting on the 14th.

I received a phone call 2 weeks ago from admissions to let me know I was accepted as classes are starting so soon. However, while I was advised to move forward with physicals, immunizations, etc., I still had to get through a math placement exam. I took it a second time yesterday and was absolutely devastated with my results, considering how much I had reviewed. I learned this afternoon that I'm good to go!

I have an unbelievable amount of things to get done. I have one more Mantoux test left, a hep b shot (which I may not be able to get until after I have the baby), drug test, background check, etc. I still have to go through and see what supplies I still have plenty of and what I still need. I have so much to get ready for the baby still, so now that's been bumped up to urgent as I haven't done a thing and would rather have it done before classes start.

I believe we get measured for uniforms at orientation, which I'm not quite sure how that's going to work out. I don't know if I'm going to have to go with what fits me now or guess what will fit after our the baby is here. Clinicals start right around his due date.

My head is still spinning some as I didn't expect to get accepted, period. Then when I did, I really didn't expect to be able to move forward after the math exam.

Oh, that's a great idea! I may just have to pick up a second planner too. I basically plan out my entire life, so I'll need lots and lots of white space for everything. Maybe I'll have a work/social planner/school schedule planner and then a simple assignments planner. Thanks for the idea!

Congratulations augurey! You have a lot of exciting stuff going on!

In my main planner I have my class times, clinical times when I know what time those are at, exams, when I work. Along with the weeks that my brother has my nephew since I will be helping him during those weeks with either getting him off to school, dropping him off at my parents and getting him from the bus days that I am done early enough. The second planner to me made sense for assignments since there is so much going on. In my main planner I am planning on setting set blocks of time that will be used for studying. The second planner will allow me to plan out those study sessions.

School has definitely helped me become more organized in planning my time, during prereqs and working full time it was either learn quickly to become organized or trying to keep up with everything would become a struggle. I won't even go into my system I have with my dry erase boards, lol some folks would probably think it is over board ;)

Your planner sounds like mine lol I NEED to be organized during class or else my head will be spinning trying to remember everything! Need to focus on grades and becoming a great RN! Being organized helps with that a lot!

We finally received our date for orientation. It's September 1st and 2nd. Classes begin on the 8th. I'm so excited. I've already started some reading using Nursing fundamentals demystified and Fundamentals success. I'll keep you all updated on how I'm liking the books. So far so good though. For those who've started school already, how's it going?

Congrats! I start 8/31. I'm pretty anxious. But we don't even get our schedules until next week, I'm starting to grow impatient haha! Good luck to you in school!! :)
