Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
just catching up with the thread. took the pre-assessment quiz and scored an 86% - not bad considering i am at work and had someone talking to me the entire time i was trying to complete it
. hope to heck i score as well on the test out. trying it on wed am.
:yeah:nice work, and good luck on wed. i am off to work now myself for at least 12-14 hrs. today. i may try it on my break. have a good sleep. lol...zzzzzzzzz:yawn:
Seriously considering quiting this program. Not sure if the 5 week thing is for me...especially when you "A" students feel nervous/overwhelmed. After looking at that syllabus I feel sick! And I've only just begun........
Hang in there michelemybell. It can be overwhelming, that was my experience as well. I felt like quiting many times. If it were not for my boyfriend's encouragement I would have, but just take it one module at a time. These accellerated courses require alot of time studying, researching and reading. I personally think that they overload us far too much with assignments but once you figure out how to organize and tackle these modules, it is 'do-able'. I am now on my eighth class, it definitely can be done.
Just got an e-mail from Ohio U explaining how the change from quarters to semesters will work. I haven't had a chance to examine things closely but at first blush, it looks like the changes are fairly benign.
► The NRSE classes will remain in their 5-week format, meaning that instead of two 5-week sessions per quarter, there will be three 5-week sessions per semester.
► The general education classes that are currently 10 weeks long will convert to full 15-week-long semester courses.
► All students will be required to have a Transition Degree Completion Plan (TDCP) on file, which will map out exactly what courses you will take during the rest of your program to insure that you will graduate in a timely manner. You will receive more information via email over the next few months about the TDCP and how it will be completed with an advisor. Advisors in our office will review and sign your TDCP. If you follow the plan set forth in your TDCP, your graduation will not be delayed because of the transition.
► Perhaps the biggest change is that instead of 12 NRSE classes, there will be 9. Some courses are being combined, resulting in two courses becoming one. The new courses and their quarter equivalents are as follows:
♦ NRSE 300 and NRSE 335 will combine to be NRSE 4510 *
♦ NRSE 310 and NRSE 325 will combine to be NRSE 4520 **
♦ NRSE 330 will be NRSE 4530
♦ NRSE 341 will be NRSE 4540
♦ NRSE 405 will be NRSE 4550
♦ NRSE 410 will be NRSE 4560
♦ NRSE 414 will be NRSE 4570
♦ NRSE 416 and NRSE 445 will combine to be NRSE 4580 **
♦ NRSE 455 will be NRSE 4600
*Since you all have taken or are currently taking NRSE 300, you should fit in 335 sometime before next Fall. If you do not take NRSE 335 by next Fall, you will have to take the course that combines 300 and 335 causing you to repeat the 300 material.
**We recommend you either finish both courses before next Fall, or take neither and wait until the combined version is available. If you have completed only one of the courses that will be combined, you will be required to take the semester course that combines the two courses, thus repeating some material. (For example, if you complete NRSE 310 but not NRSE 325 before fall, you will be required to take NRSE 4520 in semesters.)
A list of semester course offerings is posted at: http://www.outreach.ohio.edu/bsn/q2s/semester_course_offerings.pdf
The change look reasonable. Classes still 5 weeks long, just take 3 during a semester instead of 2 a quarter. Combination of some classes also makes sense! 310 + 325 = assessment and interventions. Management + strategic planning. I'll (hopefully) be finishing up this time next year! The semester change isn't going to affect my classes - will have research and the capstone class to complete next fall.
I am confused. If Nursing is still 5 weeks on the semester schedule and they combine classes...does that mean that combined class is still only 5 weeks long??????
Yes...And the 10wk classes will not be 15wks. So I would suggest getting some of those 10wk prereq done before the switch. I'm in a 10wk business communication class right now, and I can't imagine doing it for 15wks.

I know what you mean. Transitions was a challenge because it was new. In hindsight it was a great class, lol!
