Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Yes...And the 10wk classes will not be 15wks. So I would suggest getting some of those 10wk prereq done before the switch. I'm in a 10wk business communication class right now, and I can't imagine doing it for 15wks.
Does this mean that those of us on "semester" schedule actually have LESS classes to fulfill since they will be combined and yet within the same time constraint???? How many quarters are equivalent to a semester.
I am trying to figure out if I will come out ahead on this semester change (if I only having nursing classes to complete) or not????
first things first. congratulations mary, yours is the 1,000th post on this thread! there's gotta be an an prize for that.
six classes have been combined into three, so 3 less are now required - 9 classes under the new plan versus 12 now. i think the formula is 4 quarters = 3 semesters.does this mean that those of us on "semester" schedule actually have less classes to fulfill since they will be combined and yet within the same time constraint???? how many quarters are equivalent to a semester.
it looks to me that you can come out ahead in terms of the time required to complete the program.i am trying to figure out if i will come out ahead on this semester change (if i only having nursing classes to complete) or not????
we all need to take nrse 335 (since we've all had 300) and so can't take advantage of the combined classes of nrse 4510. anyone (like me) enrolled in nrse 325 this semester would need to take nrse 310 before the change and so forgo the combining of these classes in nrse 4520. but you should be able to take nrse 4580, which combines nrse 416 and 445 and as a result, should get you to graduation one semester sooner. this works in my case but it leaves an open session with no class along the way (in my case, i'm planning on only one class each session - this may not be the case if you take two). even with that break though, i should complete things at the end of the fall session next year instead of the first winter session in 2013.
i need to play around with things to see if there are alternatives. i have to believe that if i could double up at some point, i could take advantage not only of nrse 4580 but also of nrse 4520, which would mean i'd have to drop nrse 325(and before friday to avoid a cost penalty). this is kind of like playing a chess game - you have to figure out lots of moves well in advance . . .
deltaroxxy2, I'm thinking it's better to just go ahead and take the test ASAP...what do you think? You've been where we are. I have to keep up with 325 as well! Yikes, this is stressful! I didn't do well at all on the pre-assessment test for Mod 1. Embarassing! I cruised along and then missed a few and boom...

Go to the evolve Jarvis resource site - there are quizes associated with each chapter of the book. Take them, review what you need to and then test out. That's my plan anyway??

According to the assignment info - we have until Sunday night to complete the test out option for assessment. Don't think I can wait that long - going to hunt up stuff for discussion post - just in case I fail the test-out.
