I know this is random but I am curious as to where in your school your office is located. Our building is going to be re modeled and my principal is talking about moving my office away from everyone so it is not connected to the main office. I am not a huge fan of this as the office is my support when needed either for phone calls to and from parents, covering for emergencies and lunch, etc etc. Please let me know where your office is and pros and cons of the location. Thanks! :-)
My office is directly next to the main office. I share a wall with the principal and sometimes I can hear her giving a student a good stern talking-to. I sit and giggle and be glad it isn't my kid. All that aside, it's nice to be near the main office but my door faces a main hallway, kind of right in the middle of everything. Everyone walks by and gawks. I wish the closeness with the office provided helpful coverage/etc but I never get help of any kind so...
I am also right next to the copy room on the other side so I get to hear the copy-room gossip. That's helpful sometimes
My current office is inside the main office. My only gripe is the office managers office is an inner office inside my office. So subs unfamiliar with this school always walk up to me in the morning looking for their plans and I have to direct them over to the office manager. She's terribly helpful though and a lovey person so I don't really mind.
Two of the worst offices I've covered: 1)The nurse's desk sits in the office with front office staff while the health office is across the way. I could see students from the desk but couldn't physically sit in the room with the kids. Because I sat in front of the counter parents would stare at me when they wanted help. 2)When I asked where it was I was directed to "Walk past the C-train to the temporary unit, the blue door next to the dumpster." Lovely
My office is located in the main office. I love this. I don't have my own phone line (another story for another day) so anytime I call out, parents never listen to the voicemail so the office staff will just yell in "Did you call so-and-so?"
Also, when a parent picks up a kid I can have a little chit-chat with them if need be. Or when I hear a parent registering a new kid I go out and give my speech on allergies, medications, etc.
It gets a little annoying when teachers see a kiddo laying down and stop in and ask what's going on, but other than that it is perfect. Last week one of my diabetic kiddos came in with a friend and he was being rowdy and wouldn't get back to class. Our counselor popped her head in and said "I think she told you to go back to class!"
My office is down the hall from the Main Office. I *think* there are 3 classrooms (maybe 4) between me and the Main Office and I am a-ok with this. I think the office was put here originally because my office served 2 schools at one point. My office is only a few classrooms and a ramp away from the junior high, and this location prevented junior high kids from cross-pollinating too much with the high school kids.
I have my own bathroom, 2 sinks and a shower, and my own fax machine. I do have to travel a bit to get to a copy machine, but it's good to get out and stretch the ol' legs every once in a while.
My office is located near the gym and kindergarten classroom. The main office is not too far from my office. I like being close to the gym due to any injuries that may occur there. The school I work at is pretty small. At my children's school, the nurse's office is right across from the main office and is right by the main entrance door.
Our health office is connected to the main office. Staff mailboxes are between us along with a short corridor, so I can't hear them and they can't hear me. The door between main office and health office has a window but the health office is roomy enough with a separate small room with cots so it's not like people standing in the main office get a clear view at anything that should be private. I like being connected to the main office because it's only a tiny walk to ask the clerical staff or principals/secretaries anything, their copy machine is nearby, and parent pick up is streamlined (and they can stop by and talk to me if necessary). I like that it's easy access for parents who want to talk to me and I do not get many people taking a "shortcut" through my office to the hallway.
So overall I like where my office is located. The only thing I mind is that it doesn't have a nice window to look outside of!
Our school is basically one long hallway with pods that branch off for each grade level, the gym, cafeteria and library. I am towards the back end of the school, completely opposite from our main office. Whenever I'm sending someone home I need to call in front to let them know the kid is coming and they call me when the parent's get there to send the kid up.
I kinda wish I was closer to the front, because since I'm in the middle of 3 of the grade levels, I see so much traffic between classes because my FFs try to sneak a visit in without their teacher knowing. I think I would have less if they had to walk past some of our office staff

I am in a very old building that has been remodeled and cobbled up over the years. My current office is in a corner at the end of a hall. It's close to PreK and kinders, but pretty far from the rest of the school. I don't mind the current placement as it works pretty well. That said, we are building a new school. In a couple years, I will have a brand new office, located adjacent to the main offices/administration. I like the new plan as maybe I will be more "in the loop" than I am now.
