NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi guys! Thought I'd make a forum for NYU's ABSN Program for fall 2020.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Alexis Paige. Currently in California. I received my BA in psych from a private university with a GPA below 3.0. Took pre-reqs in multiple community college while working. Ended up with the same GPA as undergrad ?

Here's my stats:

Anatomy: C (planning to retake in spring 2020)

Physio: A-

Microbio: C+ (planning to retake in spring 2020)

Chem for health sciences: C+

Nutrition: A

Stats: C

Lifespan dev: B

Volunteer experience at Stanford University. Do you think I have chance with NYU? I feel like my only hope in getting in are the letter of recs + personal essay.

Feel free to comment whatever is on your mind. What are your stats? Where are you from and what other schools will you be applying at? Help a sistah out!

thank you @sigtime

Applying for Fall ABSN but wanted to double check that two of my classes meet the proper pre-req (otherwise I'll switch to a non-accelerated 2nd degree app). I emailed admissions as instructed on the 2nd Degree page with all the info they'd need for the classes to see if they meet the requirements, but haven't heard back. Trying to figure out if I need to take a different sort of Chemistry for the Spring - has anyone had luck calling admissions and talking to someone that way?

@marquisdelafayette

what two classes do you need to check?

for me, i took chem for health sciences at a community college and i emailed admissions. they said i need to take regular chemistry so i will take it this summer. so i'm applying for second degree accelerated since chemistry will be the only thing i'm missing

@tropicalbreeze Chemistry - at my school it's Fundamentals of Chemistry, still through the Chem department and I'm not EXACTLY sure how it's different than General Chemistry (which I took, but is old enough I'd have to re-take) - which I can do in the Spring Semester but I'd rather not if my other Chem suffices. And Statistics. It's a normal statistics class and the only one offered where I am but the title is Elementary Statistics and I'm not sure if that matters or not. If that class doesn't count, I'll have to switch to non-accelerated 2nd degree since I don't have another Stats option with my math department. ?‍♀️I sent in the course descriptions/syllabi as instructed on the site, but haven't heard from anyone yet. How long did it take for them to get back to you when you emailed?

@marquisdelafayette i took elementary probability & statistics so i think you should be fine. also your chem class sounds sufficient but you should still double check with the chem one.

i'm looking at my email to see how long they responded and actually they did not respond at all. it was another school that responded to me. so i just went on their website to check the pre-reqs. it says:

Chemistry with Lab (in-class only at least four credits). Note that the following courses will not satisfy this prereq: Organic or Biochemistry

the class i took was biochemistry related so i need to do the general one this coming summer.

How does it work if we're working on a pre-req still? I've seen people get provisional acceptances so do I just send official transcripts for everything I've got finished then update them once the pre-req I'm doing is finished (even though that's after the priority deadline)?

yeah i think so. just state whatever class is pending and then update them once you finish the class.

if you're going to be done with all the pre-reqs before the program starts, then you can apply for the accelerated one. but if you need to complete the rest at nyu, then you're non-accelerated.

I called admissions twice, and left a message once, however, they have yet to get back to me and its been about two weeks.
