New nurse resume and transcripts

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hey everyone, I just recently passed my boards and don't want to apply for jobs until I have a perfect resume. Any suggestions on any programs to help guide me into a resume? I want to put my clinical sites on there also problem is the school I attended is now shut down. Do your transcripts have your clinical sites and hours on them? Thanks in advance!

I'm not a resume expert but I do believe that clinicals do not have a place on resumes. Clinical experience is a given for nursing school grads. Do you have any other paid/volunteer experience?

It is very concerning that your school "is now shut down." That will likely be a large hurdle to get past. It also appears that you passed NCLEX on your 5th attempt. Can you list any experiences/work history obtained during that 4+ attempt time period?

Phew way to burst my super happy bubble I am in. No matter if I took it 1 time or 5 times I still passed the same test all other RN's did. Others from my school haven't had problems finding jobs. I just simply asked for advice on a resume.

You can find threads with resume advice by looking at the top yellow banner under the career section. If it has been more than a year since you graduated, you may want to consider taking a refresher course with a clinical placement.

And resume advice is exactly what I gave you. The refresher course is another excellent idea since it's bound to have been some time since graduation.

Clinical sites do not belong on a resume anymore than your other classes from school do. Just say you graduated. That's enough. ;)

I had my clinical placements on my resume, I highlighted the skills and knowledge I gained from them. However, I only had ones that were relevant to jobs I was applying for. I left out mental health and long term care

Congratulations on passing NCLEX!!!!!

An employer would not be interested in anything other than real work (paid) experience.

Your clinical "experience" is not as a functioning RN and reflects minimal exposure to clinical situations that constitute your basic nursing education. Employers know they have to provide you with the experience you will eventually place in your resume.

You may have to be creative in explaining the gap between your graduation and now. Obviously I wouldn't admit it took you 5 times to pass a test of minimal competency.

I would not list clinical experience from a school that is now shut down. It does not matter if it shut down for benign or neutral reasons, the fact that it is shut down will be looked upon as a negative and anyone who makes the connection might remark to you that they now have no way to verify what you wrote. Just too risky. JMO
