I am in total shock - I got a phone call and the initial congratulations email today. I just submitted the W4, verification, and banking info - they are due on 9/19 for me. I must be one of the last people notified. I can't believe what an incredible award this is!!!

That is awesome! Congratulations hakhama! (:

Can I ask you what the first letter of your last name is? I am still in the "Under Review" category. I called the 800 number today. He said there was still time. I am kind of bummed after seeing how long ago some people were notified.

Has anyone received an official decline notice? Those are supposed to be out by September 30th as well. I had my application in by the 2nd week of April. I've been waiting a long time.

Specializes in ICU.

Has anyone received a clear answer about how we're supposed to proceed with the invoice form/other reasonable costs, etc?

HRSA will give you forms to give to your school with exactly what should be included for payment if tuition and certain fees. They actually layout which fees are covered and which are not. As for the other reasonable costs, HRSA calculates that themselves so tour school didn't bed to submit anything regarding that.

Those who were rewarded, is the scholarship paying for everything or is some things coming out of pocket?

My last name starts with J and I'm starting a master's psych NP program. I honestly don't think last name or program type has anything to do with it. I'm not sure why I got it so late!!! But it goes to show that you really never know what will happen up until the deadline.

I'm rather confused right now. There seems to be a huge disconnect between the program and the school! There are a couple current students who received this, and each year, a few people seem to always be awarded this at my school, yet the people I speak with in the school have either never heard about it or don't know what is needed, or are asking me for things that my HRSA helper person says that they already should have.

What are people turning in to the school?

To whom are you turning these things too?

Are there deadlines around this?

Has anybody gotten to have a say in what their ORC, books, or anything is?

If yes, please tell me where I can find it! I am having trouble navigating the portal page these days. Like I can only access the barest of info from the main page, but then I can't access other pages without links (like the one in the welcome message on portal)!

Thanks everyone! I've been on vacation for this nice five week break between the first quarter and the coming year of learning excellence with lots of fishing and smoking salmon, harvesting peaches and pears, etc... Finding it hard to believe that I am about to be tossed back into reality any day now...

Thanks for your reply. I am in my last year of an ADN program. I noticed most of the arwardees were in BSN programs or NP programs. My last name starts with a 'V'. I agree that it doesn't appear notices are sent out according to last name.

I seemed to have the same issue as you. My college has had people receive this award in the past, yet, the administrators had beaucoup questions about EVERYTHING!

What are people turning in to the school? - I just turned in the documents I received in my welcome packet.

To whom are you turning these things too? - I mainly dealt with the bursar's office.

Are there deadlines around this? - I don't think there is a deadline, but if you want to get your financials taken care of as soon as possible, it is best to get everything straight as quickly as you can. I have already gotten my loans re-paid! (:

Has anybody gotten to have a say in what their ORC, books, or anything is? - No, it is a predetermined amount that they calculated when your application was still being considered. We do not need to do anything or ask our schools to submit anything....ORC payment will come around in October.

Thanks MocaPoca - that's super helpful!! I'm still waiting for my contract to be countersigned but it's really helpful to know that stuff for once I get my welcome packet.

Another observation -- my program doesn't start until Sept. 29th. I wonder if that has something to do with my hearing back so late? who knows.. maybe they aren't done giving out awards. Just throwing out it out there again (in case future applicants are reading this forum) I am an incoming master's PMHNP student and did not get my finalist email until Sept. 18. Anything can happen!!!!

Wow I wish my program started late LOL. I am so ready to be done with school it isn't funny. You should get a participant email by the end of the month. Getting the finalist email is a very good sign. Try to relax. Only a few more days to wait!

If you're having trouble getting all the numbers for your costs and dealing with the scholarship reps, I would recommend you look up the name and phone number of your school's Director of Financial Aid and call and email that person. I had issues with my financial aid & bursar office reps giving me an inaccurate full cost for my 12-month ACE (BSN) program. I needed an accurate total because I wanted to have loans cover as much as possible so if I didn't get this scholarship I could apply to the loan repayment program later. They kept referring me to guides online for the school's Cost of Attendance -- which didn't have all the costs for every semester we have to take + living/transportation expenses + books + program-specific expenses (uniforms, equipment, exam modules, background check, clinical parking/gas, etc.). The Director was super nice about sitting down with me and going through all the costs and adjusting what my Cost of Attendance is listed as in their system. The Cost of Attendance (COA) for my program was $10,000 more than the general COA for just the 2015-2016 academic year -- not including the two summer sessions I have in 2016. That's a big chunk of change that I would have had to come up with on my own and it would not have been eligible for the repayment program. I'll be going back in Feb to go over the summer expenses so I can get another loan to cover everything else.

Do your own calculations for the costs and make sure they match up with what your school has -- for everything.
