Nursing corps scholarship 2015-2016

Hi, I recently found out that I received the nurse corps scholarship and I was wondering if any current scholars had any insight on the process of finding a job. I would really like to work in acute care in an ER, ICU or med/surge setting and have been getting mixed responses as to whether or not this is possible. Does anyone know if you can work in places other than primary, mental health, and dental care for an HPSA facility? Thanks!

Hello! I started this thread and am so glad I did because all of the information that was contributed was so incredibly helpful. I graduate in December of this year and just accepted an ICU job at Hopkins. As long as the facilicty has a hpsa score of 14 or more for mental or primary health than it qualifies and you can work in any unit within it!

Hi guys, I don't know if you guys are still monitoring this, but I saw a few people that were offered the scholarship, offering to show essays for a starting point for others that were applying to this scholarship, if you guys still have them, are you willing to email them to me just for reference? I got accepted into Johns Hopkins and want to apply for this. If you guys can offer any help that would be great. If you guys can offer your scholarship essays just for me to reference, I have something down, but I want to make sure I get this scholarship. Thank you in advance.

your situation sounds similar to mine. Except I was pregnant when I applied and found out I recieving it two days post partum! Are you full time? That's the biggest thing. Also I feel like everyone on here who applied was overly qualified I think it mainly came down to the essays. I poured my heart into each one. Each a little less than a page but I really let them know who I was and who I want to continue to grow into. If you want to PM me I can try and find my essays and you can see them as a reference if you would like. They want to see that your motivated by your grades, that your likely going to graduate, and that your a genuinely good person. My essays didn't go along the lines of "I volunteered here it made me a better person" they were more of a life story for each and the impacts those experiences had on me and how they pushed me to be better and how that would make me a better nurse
also I applied for however many years would cover my entire program because I wanted to be able to focus as much time as I can on my classes and my now 7 month old daughter. It did take me a while to get reimbursed. I think there was mis communication between my school and nurse corps though, so stay on top of your school! Also being a single mom and going to school to be honest I didn't have to pay any taxes back. I also had W2 from other jobs so maybe that factored into it.
Last, I found out two days after my daughter was born so August 6th is when I received the email. However, I think I recieved the credit check from CREDCO sometime in July? Can anyone else verify when they did? Different people heard at different times though so never get discouraged.

not sure but i found like the judges panel example grading procedure from years ago
CRITERION 3: Essay 1 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
The applicant describes his/her future desire ( i.e. he/she understands, can describe the need for and/or or has personal knowledge of underserved communities) to contribute to the mission of the NURSE Corps Scholarship Program by providing care to underserved communities
CRITERION 4: Essay 2 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
The applicant clearly delineates their experience and activities (i.e., community service, volunteer, internship, research) which have prepared them to work with underserved populations.
CRITERION 5: Essay 3 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
The applicant demonstrates a thorough commitment to a career in nursing.
but yes please do not copy any verbatum essays it will ruin it for everyone --- not directing that towards you just everyone!! lol...
not sure about a 2016-2017 post not sure where to do it and i looked on facebook only found 2014-2015 group and they didnt add me --prob bc its 2016 lol... ill keep looking!!!
