Hi Everyone,
FutureNurseEmilyP80 here my other account is on the fritz. I just wanted to let you know I got an award email today at 6pm!!!!! I'm so excited. Thank you for everyone who was involved with this thread. It helped me SOOOOO much through this process. I can't tell you have excited I am. I cried a lot lol
I agree that we should be realistic in our expectations for this award. It is a very competitive scholarship... We are all competing against brilliant, involved and experienced future nurses.I posted a link to the review criteria for the scholarship- it is very extensive. Although the scholarship is need-based, EFC is not part of the criteria. GPA is 10 points out of 100. Essays and demonstrated experience in serving underserved communities are a total of 70 points.
After applicants are scored, they are ranked. The highest ranked are offered the scholarship first.
The credit check is simply a final review. I spoke to a representative today and she told me that they look for defaults in federal loans, bankruptcies, and bad patterns in credit management. She told me that they look for "responsible, good people" who are capable of understanding and managing their service commitment.
She also told me that they're sending notifications everyday. Applicants are given just a few days to accept the award before it is offered to someone else.
The purpose of this scholarship is not to provide a hand up to nursing students, but to provide and incentive for the most capable future nurses to serve/help the neediest patients.
I like to believe that nurses and nurse students are giving people. I pray that we all expressed our passion for serving others in our application. Nurse Corps is looking for the future nurses who demonstrate the strongest desire and promise in serving patients from underserved communities.
How in the world did you get that information from them? I asked the rep what they look at in the final review (that's the stage I'm at) and all he could say was that they look at the same information a second time. I asked him what the difference was between the first and second review and his reply was a reheorificed, "I'm sorry but we are given only general information regarding the Nurse Corps Scholarship."
So does anyone know for sure what happens during the Final Review? Do you think they call past employers and community service supervisors?

Hard Inquiries update almost immediately on Creditkarma. It doesn't wait until you 1 week update. My usual update was on 7/14 for Creditkarma and I got a notification on 7/17 that I had an inquiry that was performed on 7/15. So keep an eye on it, it may come sooner than your usual update. Mine also only showed on Equifax it has not showed up on my Experian report. Good luck!
