Hello!
If anyone else applying for the nursing corps scholarship 2015-2016 is anything like me then you've been googling like crazy trying to find out information on how to apply or what they need or even previous years winner. Soooooo.....if anyone is applying this year around or previously has and was or wasn't accepted please tell me your experience! Here are my stats PLEASE share yours if you'd like....
maryland full time nursing student.
VP of my local student nurses association
1st semester done ( :) ) asking for 2 years assistance
GPA 3.44
EFC 0000
4 years of community service in underserved communities
I have a a question about CSF and the tool to find them. When I do the search there are certain ones that say Low-Income Holyoke, Low-Income Springfield, and the number is above 14. Holyoke and Springfield are towns in my area. Does that mean anything in that town qualifies as critical shortage? There are hospitals in both towns. I am just unsure if I am understanding it properly.
Also, if a facility has a PCP # of less than 14 but a mental health number of 14+ is it acceptable. Do you have to be working in a Mental Health capacity to have it count towards a service obligation? This is what it says:
In a Mental Health HPSA: Yes
HPSA Name: Low Income - Holyoke
ID: 725999257D
Designation Type: Hpsa Population
Status: Designated
Score: 17
Designation Date: 12/21/2011
Last Update Date: 04/21/2014
Thanks!
Not sure about the mental health thing...as I understand it, whatever you go to school for is the field they expect you to work in.
To get a better understanding of eligible work sites, google hrsa hpsa by address and there will be a site that will let you type in the address of a clinic or hospital and tell you if it is eligible or not. The score has to be 14 or above.
Oh this waiting for an answer is brutal!!!!!!!!!! I was reading the posts from last year it is nice that you guys were so supportive of each otherI check my credit every day lol and the site.
Ah your so right! The waiting was incredibly brutal! I think I checked my email at least 20 times a day for MONTHS! I forgot to check my credit, so on July 20th (after hearing the first round had their credit checked) I figured why not check and there it was, CREDCO, in big bold! I started crying and then told myself NOT to get ahead of myself. Then I had my daughter by C-section on August 4th, was very busy the next few days because she was in the NICU, and then an hour after being released from the NICU I checked my email and there it was! I cried so hard i was scared my C-section would reopen (it would not have, but i was really crying ha). Good luck to you, keep your head up, your so close to hearing, try to do stuff to keep your mind off of it and yes having all these wonderful people on this site going through the same thing was so incredible and such a great net to fall back on when I was feeling low or stressed or just could not take the waiting any longer!
