For the first time in 27 years of nursing, I met a person who said "I am an atheist" My heart did a 20 beat run of V-tach!! Yikes! I wonder if God has placed this person in my path for a reason. I will love her like I've never loved anyone!!!! I have a few more months with her and my heart is broken into a zillion pieces for her.

And your point is ... ??

Is this going to be a problem for you? Why is your heart broken for this person? Are you assuming they are somehow incomplete or unfulfilled because they are an athiest?

I'm surprised that it took that long for you to find a person that declared themselves an atheist. Although I am a Christian, I have met many folks over the years, that weren't. It doesn't scare me, because it doesn't necessarily make them a bad person. It's their right to believe or not. As long as they don't try to influence me with their beliefs (or lack thereof) I respect their opinion. By the same token, I don't try to push my beliefs onto them. All you can do, is just what you've been doing. Keep her in your thoughts, and treat her the same as you would anyone else.

Speaking for myself, I am an atheist, and while I do like having discussions at times with people who try to convert or convince me, you sound like you might be a bit too intense to have a conversation with. Even if as you say you will love her like you have never loved anyone.

If you are going to proceed with this person let me give advice at least as it would relate to me: dial your intensity back, respect her wishes and needs especially if you are in a position of control over her such as her preceptor, and listen to what she has to say about her views as well what she thinks about yours. Hopefully she will also treat you with the care and respect we all are entitled to.

Finally, with all the energy and passion you have for this person/ mission,it sounds like you could put it to use in many places other than this person should they ask you to back off.

Yikes?? Wow really? Wonder how you would feel about a lesbian atheist. Will you pray for me hahaha.. this post is too much. Is this real life?

I guess I'm just surprised that in 27 years you've never met an atheist. I'd dial down the intensity, for sure.

That is God’s job. Yes, we do have standards, we do enforce them, and we do fight for our stands. But unless God puts His fire in a person, nothing will change him.

Its commical how some people read so much into a statement. They glean all this false information LOL. I never said it was a problem for me.

I am (truly) not sure what you are saying or referring to in reference to false information as well as the part about standards and enforcing them. Can you explain them a bit more.

No snark intended.
