#nursesforgive

Nurses General Nursing

I am a registered nurse and like the fact that nurses stood together, but the power of social media to crush or destroy somebody scares me. We need to try and adhere to the Golden Rule especially when using social media! So I posted the following on twitter hoping to advance the Golden Rule. The world now knows that nurses have limits on being belittled and disrespected. Now let us reinforce the public's faith that we are loving and nonjudgmental group!

#nursesunite rarely but #nursesforgive ALWAYS! @TheView @JoyVBehar

.I didn't need to be told what the Golden Rule is, but, thank you. My opinion stands. Do you REALLY think Joy or Whoopi felt "Crushed"? Please. Responding in protest in numbers is NOT crushing big-mouth celebs with huge egos.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In other words if(when) I do something stupid tell me..... but don't crush or destroy me!

Do you really think those monstrous egos on The View are crushed or destroyed? We actually just handed them a boatload of publicity... and there's no such thing as bad publicity.

The Golden Rule doesn't really seem to fit here. I think what you're reaching for is the "forgive and forget" adage. If anyone needs a lesson in The Golden Rule, it's the women of The View.

That day, nurses everywhere were minding their own business, attending to their duties. And then Michelle Collins opened her mouth and spewed out unnecessary hate. Freedom of speech doesn't equal freedom of consequences. I feel an obligation to forgive those I know who issue a genuine apology. Not an anonymous TV host that went off the deep end unprovoked.

I can always forgive. But I never forget.

I thought you wanted me to put the Golden Rule into context. My mistake.

I appreciate and respect your opinion. I just disagree that the Golden Rule applies at all in this case. Nurses coming together to register protest at insulting words lobbed at our profession, is to me, a good thing. I for one, am sick of the profession of nursing being maligned by ignorant masses.

It (the protesting) got their attention. I don't feel doing this is an act of crushing anyone and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Golden Rule, no matter what context we put it in here.

Thank you for the clarification. I know my perspective is different than most being a male nurse. In regards to my being an RN my children bore the brunt of it many times. Their friends made comments like,"is that legal?" or "your dads a what?" I hold my head up high and just let it go as being ignorant.

What does being a male have to do with anything?

Except when politicians text member pics. member pic texting gets you bad publicity.

I still can't get over that Anthony WEINER did that.

I understand your view. I believe I said forgive not forget. I believe they need to be accountable for their statements. It is the public crushing that I am worried about. I am not condemning the #nursesunite movement I support it. I would like to see us unite on many other disparaging comments and disparaging portrayals of nurses. Many which are intentional. I would like to see consistency in calling people out. I am just saying that personally I think it would be good to leave it on a high note. As a male nurse I am use to the comments so I may not be as hurt by the comments as others in the profession. Thank you for sharing your opinion... it helps give me perspective.
