Does your facility have a policy on tattoos? Where I work the policy states that you can't have any tattoos visible that are "offensive". That's kind of vague wording to me lol. I have a small set of cherries on the back of my neck and no one has said anything so I guess that's not offensive.
I also got a new tattoo this weekend. Here's a pic. I just had it done yesterday (it's my graduation/new job present to myself :redbeathe ). I had about 3 hours worth of work done and still have about 1-2 hours left. It's on my right calf which isn't visible at all at work which is good because I could see how someone might be offended by it even though I think it's beautiful :redpinkhe
Nice tattoo! I have been wanting a pinup forever, and now that I am a student nurse, I have been thinking of getting a nurse one..
ANY WHO I have a chest piece of a skull with wings, that is not visible in my scrubs with a shirt.. All of my classmates where surprised when I wore a tank top to school.. All of my family told me you'll never become a nurse because of it, but its coverable, and I asked all of my teachers and RNs about it, and they say as long it can be covered...
The whole sexy nurse thing is never going to change... I tell people I am becoming a nurse, I have gotten all types of responses, but there are all types of "sexy" sterotypes we are never going to change..
I love your new tattoo! I can't wait to see when it's finished. I think some people are taking it too seriously. It's Betty Page, right? Anything from the '50s - even if it's sexy, like yours - is just automatically classy and gorgeous, imo. However, because of the sexiness of the tattoo, I feel that it would be best covered because it could be considered offensive. Look at how many people here are offended already!
I certainly hope hospitals don't have a problem with visible tattoos! Both of my arms are sleeved and I have a large piece across my chest, as well as others that can be more easily concealed. I know I'll have to wear long sleeves and/or a turtle neck for many years before my amount of tattoos is acceptable. Good thing I didn't get my hands tattooed before I decided to go back to school for nursing!
I'm glad you really love your tattoo.
I have one down my spine, it was meant to be a tribal design of the medical symbol, Caduceus but I hate it. I'm having it removed and my goodness it hurts more having it lasered off.
I don't mind the sex symbol thing, I actually think it's empowering to nurses rather than the powerless angel. Myself and a few of my fellow nurses once dressed up like naughty nurses and hit the town one night, had a fantastic time though it's amazing how many guys started feeling suddenly unwell and needed our assistance...
Honestly, I think tattoos are not such a good thing, but I'm older.
Visible (not visable) Sorry, no offense meant, just have a bugaboo about spelling.
Caduces? cadueces? Oh, man, now I'll have to look that up. Not sure. :nuke:
I also don't like tongue rings or earrings on men. As I said, I'm up in years.
My place of employment says no "visible" tattoos, however when my husband was recently in the ER there were MANY nurses with tats, male and female. I have 3, with the only visible one being on my wrist. I usually wear a bracelet when working or long sleeves. I work in home health and have on occassion forgotten to cover it up and no one has ever said anything to me.

thankyou for that link, i never knew all of that. being an army medic (australian) and wearing the caduceus on my corps badge i made the same assumption as many others. it is an interesting history but i dont know if the singular snake would make as cool a tattoo....... but then another tattoo is stil a pipe dream until i convince the missus.
