I believe it is no employers business with what I do after work OFF duty. I have the right to smoke a joint if I want to. I'm a responsible adult MJ smoker and would never come into work stoned. Ever. I don't do any other drugs, drink alcohol, or smoke cigarettes. I do a great job, love my patients, always arrive to work on time, do what I'm supposed to do as a health professional.
Testing positive for a drug does not suggest impairment. I think we can all agree on that fact.
Tip for other MJ smokers:
From what I understand it is better to refuse to take a drug test knowing you will test positive than actually take the test; because your license could be revoked.
Drug testing is a clear violation of our 4th amendment rights.
Am I for drug tests? Absolutely. Pre-employment and poor job performance. Random? No way.
I know your looking for a validation sorry but I will not stoop to a that level and say its ok to smoke weed . And I was referring to ALCOHOLICS not the casual drinker there is a huge difference and I am suprised you can not grasp the idea they are different. Weed is a addictive drug ok so please don't justify it and comparing it to a glass of wine at night which is legal , and a joint is illegal. Do whatever you want but drugs are drugs .
First off, saying it's okay to smoke weed is not "stooping" to another level. Stop acting like you're better than everyone, because you're not. Secondly, I used to smoke weed off and on. I can say first hand that it is not addictive, as I do not smoke it anymore, do not crave it, in fact I never really liked it, it was more of a social thing and fun to do at the appropriate times.
Because you've experienced first-hand something negative that came about from marijuana use, and to your own brother, I can see why you have such a negative view about it.
It is not the marijuana that caused your brother to get into a bad lifestyle, it was your brother. If someone chooses to do something, like smoke pot, and mess up their life over it, it's their own fault. Your brother chose his own path in life and now he has to deal with it. It's not right of you to smear everyone that smokes pot because of your bad experience.
And yes you're right, it's illegal. But drugs are drugs, that's what you said too, right? So tomorrow I'll make an appointment with my doctor, telling her I have severe back pain, and she'll prescribe me some pain meds. But really I don't have any back pain and I'm just going to abuse the meds. Oh, but that's okay right, because I got the drugs and am taking them legally?
Your logic makes absolutely no sense, sorry.
Smoke up if you want - I woun't debate the relative risks and benifits of marijuana, but as to your "right" to light up a joint in your off time... Possession of pot is a criminal offense of varying degrees in all 50 states. Unless you are a nurse practicing in the Netherlands you are commiting a criminal act when you light up. Last time I checked, no one has a "right" to break the law. No comment as to whether I agree with the law or not - you have the "right" to speek out and try to get it changed, but until it is you are taking your licence into risky territory every time you take a puff. Sounds like an addiction issue to me - you are willing to risk you licence for a recreational drug.
I don't believe that...I think it should be legal for many pts with pain, ca... a 19 YO can have back pain...now the problem is...the Drs. who go along with the handing out of the script just for the $$ in their pockets.. there lies alot of the problems... In my time it was speed.. (black beauties).. kids got it for "weight" problems...but were very skinny...different times... still the same problems... now what was the name of that Dr?
agreed.
if anything, blame s/b placed on the doctor and not the 19 yo's.
i'm quite sure, that if it weren't for the dirty politics, marijuana would indeed be legalized.
everything i read points to much less trauma w/mj vs etoh.

Nurses can drink alcohol off duty. Why is that okay but marijuana is not? What about those people who are MJ patients?
My 70 year old Grandpa just got out of the hospital and he is a 2 joint a day MJ smoker and has been for over 40 years.
He was in CICU and I told the staff point blank, he is NOT gonna stop smoking his joints and drinking his beer. He's been doing this for majority of his life, so it's best we incorporate a careplan AROUND his MJ use. The docs agreed.
Basically, the docs understood that he was NOT gonna give up his MJ, so instead of 2 joints a day, cut it down to one. Seriously.
I say to each their own. I enjoy a glass of good wine every now and then. Who am I to judge?
MJ kills brain cells, you don't get restorative sleep at night and therefore can be impaired in your job later.:selfbonk:
I can't believe this is seriously a question...
So does sitting in traffic inhaleN the fumes from cars all around you...but that's another subject...no smoking on the beaches but I sure am lucky to inhale your:no: gas fumes waiting in traffic....
You obtained them via doctor , under false information , then went home and abused your prescription and abused YOUR RIGHTS, which my friend is ILLEGAL also. Please stop justifying yourself its getting old your making excuses for your irresponsibilty, and others who "responsibly " do drugs how does that make sense ?

the same can be said for alcohol.
furthermore, there is much evidence to support the use of mj for insomnia.
problem is, medical field cannot really endorse it until it is legal.
but go ahead, do a search....the data is there.
as for the effects of alcohol and sleep:
from nih:
if you don't want to read entire article, then scroll to Alcohol and Sleep in Those Without Alcoholism and Summary.

we all know that alcohol destroys brain cells.
yet can't find any concrete, reliable data indicating that mj does the same?
from medical news today:
Marijuana proliferates brain cells and boosts mood
