Nurses in Other Professions

I see former nurse coworkers everywhere....some are waitresses, bartenders, many are managers in retail. They all say the same thing: they are happier now and in many cases make more $$.

Some dropped their license; some kept it...and would occasionally do an agency shift or work PRN somewhere, but would never go back to FT nursing: it was too destructive for them personally.

They miss the nurse camaraderie but nothing else about nursing...

Not completely out, but rather merged. Now R&D software engineer for health care information systems. More uncertain job market than staff nursing, but pays much better.

My husband worked with an ER RN who also worked as a bellman at a resort and said that job paid him more than nursing did.

Oops forgot. I worked with an RN taking telephone orders for equipment and also an LPN doing directory assistance. Both took the jobs because they were physically so much easier than nursing.

Well, since Media accounts for over 50% of web revenues (and it is the same proportion for video tapes--and was from the very beginning), there is a LOT of money there.

You have to: 1) have an excellent and quick-loading site, since there is a lot of quality competition, 2) have an ironclad security system for collecting $$$, 3) have a good quality product, hopefully one for which you are the only player in your niche, and 4) constantly try new and effective advertising approaches.

If you can juggle all of the above, you can make a LOT of money, just as you can with gambling sites (if care is taken to avoid US laws).

By the same token, for less money and time you can put up a site that is just one more in a series of Media sites and still do OK, but you are not likely to get rich that way.

Out of my nursing class from 1987, I am the only one still working as a nurse. Most are SAHMs , some are selling real estate or working as financial consultants. Some have retired.

I will pass on to you that the woman who does my facials (esthetician, I believe the term) makes vastly more money than I do. Plus tips.

To everyone who knows nurses doing transcription from home, do you know if any of them are working for Spheris (formerly Edix)? I am seriously looking into this while I get my BSN and probably MSN. I am not physically able to do bedside nursing at the present time and think this would be a good job . If anyone knows anything about this company, pay, etc... Thanks in advance

I know another nurse who left nursing and works for the post office. She has her own route now, along with the federal government benefits and is happier.

i also know many nurses that have let the bedside. I have been rn for 25 yrs and i have had it. now doing case mangement in hospital 3 days a week. very stressful but not hard on the back. i also do a fun job and i am always looking for other nurses that want to make money still with pt's but on your own. i am working with the diabetic shoe bill . set my own hrs own pace no overhead meet lots of people in senior centers etc can't keep up with all the work out there. would love to share info with anyone looking to work on their own pay is great. i will neverr never go back to bedside even though i am sad about that just can't do any more . anyone interested feel free to e-mail me on here or at [email protected] .

I knew one nurse that became a representative very happy! She says she was tired of the stress.

I notice this trend a lot of nurses are going to other jobs because I guess they figure their peace of mind is more valuable than a hefty paycheck and they are right.

Media operators ooh yes they make bank!!!!!!!

Right now my husband and I are working on getting our store so I can cut down my working as a nurse but until then I will continue to drive forward!!!!! :-)

I'm enjoying this thread.

I currently work 2 12's. My dh wants me to work FT when the boy's are in school.

I honestly know I can't put my body through FT nursing--my limit is 24 hours. My dh wants me to find a new career.

I think instead I'll get a second job in something less stressful.
