Nurses in Other Professions

Published

Hi!

I'm wondering how many of you know nurses that have taken on other careers rather than to continue with their nursing and why?

I'm too new to the profession to know any personally but a lady I worked with said she knew 5 former nurses who were working at the local Wal-Mart because it was less stressful and nursing was not about the money.

I am sure there are others...Care to share?

lol...that is a PC way of putting it. Sounds more like it is being stuck to them. I've never heard of an agency paying such small amounts...must be the only one within miles to get away with low to mid 20s. But of course the logic is you get away with whatever people allow you to.

Hello All

As an Entreprenuer Just wanted to say hello.

I am a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant and owner of Medical Legal Services of North America, Inc.

Over the past two years it has been challenging to market my services to Attorney's but I have'nt given up.

About a year ago I fell into an opportunity to become a RN Examiner and I perform Ins Exams for applicants aplying for life/health or disability insurance. I am marketing myself to insurance Agents knowing the advantage of having a skilled RN going out and examining their clients rather than the roll of the dice so to speak. I am getting great exposure and in time the remote orders that are coming through me directly shoud increase alowing me to obtain a greater piece of the reimbursment the Ins Comp pays.

I also have a business called Family Unlimited Networks that in effect provided me with residuals income from my Tridigital E-Commerce Business. For examiple when a customer, client, or member of mine purchases Office Supplies through my business partnership with OfficeMax, I obtain a financial credit for that traffic I created. I have established business relationship with many small business including some Doctors, Dentist, Insurance Agents, I am working on a school district in my area now.

There isnt a family I know that doent have a computer or two in their home andtheir children use them for school and fun. The nice thing about this business is that for office products alone a singel 50 dollor purchase ( about two Ink Cartriages) and you get free next day delievery in most areas for most purchases). The convience along is creating new customers for me.

The real cool thing about my business here is that I have no AR, AP, Liability, Returns, SHipping , Employees, Literally NO OVERHEAD). Anyone interested in Learning more?

I have three business I am running.

Conventional Job Recovery Room Nurse (It as job( but I look at it as a Business revenue producer and Health Producer for my family and self)

Medical Legal Services Of North America, Inc and I am becoming a PrePaid Legal Representative. A whole new subject to discuss later..a Market that is wide open and I can answer questions on that too..

And Family Unlimited Networks (4-FUN, Inc) my Tri-Digital E-Commerce Business which has over 120 partner stores including IBM, Disney, Sony, The Better Life Institute.

As Nurses we have numerious door before us if only we open our eyes and dream.

Anyone interested in contacting me personally check out my web link and call me Toll Free. Just let me know you are using my toll number and I will call you back. The rates are higher using it to spend time on the phone I would gladly call you back on my penny.

A little long winded but you asked what I do and the business I am involved with. I bet you didnt expect all this.

Remeber Time is our most precious asset...And I give it away for free.!

Hello from aussie,

I have been an Div2 (LPN) for 25 years and completed my Bachelor of Nursing this year. Boy, did I find out being totally responsible and everything that goes with a RN, back to shift work not for me!!!! The from families (not patients) is a real killer of enthusiasm for my former career. I consider this a rehearsal for my new career.

I am using my undergrad degree to change careers and do a postgrad dip. Next year I begin my Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching (elementery). I am going to be a teacher.

Just for FYI;

Wyoming is very spread out. A lot of business is done via fax-phone-e-mail. I didn't know their office was in the basement until I had already been working.

Moreover, there are a lot of legitimate business run out of the home - both in Wyoming and across the country. In fact, home based businesses have been on the rise for the last decade. Being a home based business is not indicative of whether a business is legitimate or not. With your post, I got to thinking about it - just off the top of my head, I know I would say between 50 and 100 legitimate home based businesses; half or more nurses. Message therapy, building contractors and self employed manufacturing networks are a few more. As John pointed out in post 86, you can make money legitimately working out of the home. This is especially true in Wyoming where one may travel 30 to 100 miles to work. An assignment I have next week is over 100 miles. It was completely set up, including the initial contact from the facility, through e-mail.

Lastly, the office was as nice as you will find anywhere. This is a case that looks can be deceiving.

Post deleted due to advertising. Poster is a nurse recruiter.

Has this turned into the advertisement thread?

I have been informed that advertising and solisitations are prohibited as stated in the Terms of partisipation at Allnurses. However the ability to state what one is doing as a nurse or Entreprenuer it lends itself to tooting one horn. Care should however be taken and focus should be on sharing ideas and insight in how you are making it happen so others can benefit from one's learned knowledge.

I myself posted here because the thread said Nurses in Other Professions.

As you probably know I have a couple businesses one of which is Medical Legal Services of North America, Inc.

I too am considering branching into developing a Temp Agency under my corporation. Funds are not available at this time and I certainly do not want to borrow to get it started up.

Oh by the way my business is home based as well. The prior post #86 discribes a little bit about my businesses and any questions on how, why and anything for that matter I will gladly answer.

Keep your eyes open people...Nurses as we all are have the power to do great things.

I forgot to mention that I met a sweet RN who was attending massage school. She was middle-aged and said that nursing was becoming hard on her back, plus she enjoyed giving people massages and learning about massage. That is why she is attending massage school. I also know an RN who went on to become a nurse anethsist. She was working ICU with me and Telemetry as an agency RN and was a GREAT RN, very competent and overall, a very nice person. At that time, she was in the process of getting her BS degree in Nursing first via some correspondence school that was out of NY. Then, she was accepted into a nurse anethsist program and graduated and is now not only making more money, but she says she is treated like a true professional and loves the work.
