  1. Just wanted to say I wish you a terrific weekend of fun and adventure. You are a very special lady and you have many great friends here. Have a wonderful time filled with joy and excitment. :roll :roll :icon_hug:
  2. I was suprised to learn that they make over 60 thousand $ a year working 3 days a week here in Colorado. I think I may go back to school
  3. While working Home health in Southern California I did a visit on a young man Para Plegegic who had wound care needs from a burn on his thigh. While I was changing his dressing his wife was in the bed room watching me do my thing while her husband was on their bed. Now it is the master bed that was the od thing about his visit. I noticed right off that the bed was ov an unusual sioze and shape. What cought my attention immediatly was the large wooden dowle balanced above the bed and across the square frame that attached to the enoures bed post. During my patient teaching I had to ask about the nature of the bed and its function His wife from that point never quite smiling for the rest of the visit. Her husband explained as best he could how it assit him in satisfying his wifes desires in face of his physical limitations. In my natural inquisitive nature I kept requesting for more detail as to how and what aparatus was nessary for this type of acrobatices to be effective. They were most accommidating. I have always said... I have learned much more from my patients than I have tought them in my professional travels.
  4. I will never forget my sponge bath
  5. Kidney stone Ouch As for your question...Not in Nursing
  6. Dear RosieSeattle, Nurses ..(or anyone for that matter) are not worth their weight in spit. let it go it is not worth the worry or fret to bother. Stay focused and keep up the good work. Your skills will spealk for themselves and this (POS) will bring you no lost energy and effort. Again what do I know Im just a Male nurse of 24 years and Have had some runins with people like this and found them to be just selfserving. Dont give those like this one the satisfaction that you gave it even a second thought because in the end they are not worth the energy. Peace to you ROsie
  7. Bussines Ownership To Fly under ones own power.... By the way I really Like your Picture. :)

If you are looking to become an RN as fast as possible AD will do it but would recomend attaining your BSN if you can..or can afford it. being 43 ..well the profession could sure use you regardless of the the degreee you have attained. Hello Erinn Let me say I know very well the feelings you mentioned. I too have found it hard to find the team and family atmosphere I had experienced early on in my first ICU position. I found that team in California at a few hospitals and in Colorado when I first came here in 1988. Times have changed and it is harder to find that which you seek. That doesent mean that you should not continue to look for it and for god sack try to show it in your self and for those around you..even it it hurts and ( in spite of those that dont show it). A patient once told me that spreading cheer and kindness is like purfumes...when we sprinkle it about it is imposible to not get some on yourself.... I know it is tough and I have had times when I found it hard to keep my spirits up when those around me would not help or care enough to lend a hand in time of need...You know those little things that make a unit a family... It is those time that your actions shine and provide that little glimmer of what it can be like when a unit or group works like a loving and caring team. Those units are out there Erinn Rest assured they are Keep looking. As for leaving under such circumstances..I have always thought that if going to work made me sick to my gut it was time to leave and telling my manager the reason why. Well thats up to you as is the decision to leave. Consider this. If the profession of nursing is one you are proud then it deserves a honest assessment and accounting of itself. One deminishes the profession and weakens it when one doesent keep it accountable to itself. A manager with any salt for brains would love good feedback and more than likely already knows the moral issue you sp[eak or ( or lack of it in their unit.) When and if you leave try not to burn your bridge by saying that you are in need of a hiatus from the unit and why. Given the circumstances of your decision and your willingnes to return when you are ready to bring a rejuvenated spriit you will more than likely be welcomed back if and when you ever wish to want to return. Be up beat but honest placing your health and spiritual welbeing first and acknowledge that at a later date perhaps you may return strengthened by your hiatus so to be able to continue to practice your best most effective nursing skills and team support. What do you think of that approach Erinn? Keep your spirits up and dont ever give up on your dreams it is what drives us all to reach and build those things we want different from where and what we have already.
  11. Better late than not at all. Whow 230 some have viewed but noone has responded. Well for whats it is worth 1. Yes I am a registrered Voter and I also vote in local elections too. 2. I am not informed in these matters but have found that since I became a nurse I have noticed that overtime after 8hours has gone by the way side and I can remember when working 3 12 hour shifts a week was great because time and a half was in effect after 8hrs on each day you worked. It made it nice and worth the 12-13 hr on your feet . Manditory lunch breaks well I have never seen that but heard that in some locations (unioonized nurses areas) this is beneficial as well as manditory Nurse Patient ratios . 3. One I see all to often is the lack of Professional support between Nurses. It is seen all to often that Nurses slam one and other and dont see the detramental effect that has on individual moral and moral support and commorariety between nurses as a whole. Organizing the massive numbers of nurses we actually have has always been a challenge in our profession. If that could be mastered we would be a force to contend with. It seems that ther eare fractional organizations with individual agendas and specialties but not a overwhelming one that has risen to the forfrount for the profession of nursing as a whole. When that happens with a unified vision perhaps nursing as a legetament profession will begin to atain the respect and stature many of the other professions have attained. For example Doctors.. Accountants, Lawyers, Not until we as a profession demand to be held accountable to our profession and not be treated and viewed as mear laborers The nursing profession will not see progress in this regard. As for how we as a profession go about this task...again we must start with a singal unified organization with a clear vision and purpose for the protection and advancement of the profession itself. 4. Any unit even if staffed well does not function well if there is not support amoung the team itself. I have worked in both (well staffed and short handed units. I have found that even in the worst case situations if the group works together well and team work is the norm it is still a joy to come to work. 5. I am not sure how to answer this question. Terry Mason AKA John Bosco
