What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???
Don't you hate it when:
you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!
when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....
come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....
When i took Microbiology we were sat 4 at a table. This lady who asy next to me had previously taken Organic Chem. Well everytime we did a lab she wuold say" in organic chem. we didnt do it like this" Organic chem this....organic chem that.....finally oe day i said" you know what, this is not organic chem.....ITS MICRO!!!! GET OVER IT"
:rotfl: What did she say?
I an in LTC But I am going to school to be an RN anyways while in clinicals there was this girl that I was partnered with and we went into a room and it totally stunk she was like "eeeeewwwww I can't believe people actuall s**t on themselves!" the person was totally embarassed. Moral of story : pet peeve is people who go into nursing without any empathy or tact.
OMG!
Almost forgot this one.
We passed around a sheet of paper to make a phone number list for all the students. We also included a "comment" blank where you could put, for example, "do not call after 9pm".
In mine i put "PLEASE do not call before 12 pm on any day. I work nights, i need sleep". And people KNEW i worked night, yet it never stopped the calls at 8 or 9 am for THEE stupidest things. Most popular calls (for a short while): class slackers wanting a CD burned of the recorded lecture, or a copy of my notes.
These are so funny yet so true!!! :) Here were my pet peeves in nursing school:
* That annoying one student who ALWAYS has to argue with the professor about why she believes the answer she put down on the exam is right-& will keep arguing her point over and over-I kept thinking-you're wasting everyone else's time here! Just talk to the prof after class!
* Whenever exams are handed back, I hated it when certain students would keep hounding everyone else with "What did you get?!" And if I said my grade, I could see they would get upset cuz they didn't do so well-& then they'd basically call me a nerd! So I learned pretty quickly not to give specific grades after that-I would just smile, when asked, & say "I did well."
* I sat next to this girl once who kept clearing her throat VERY LOUDLY exactly every 2 minutes, clockwork for the entire 3 hours of our lecture on kidney failure. OMG!!!! Needless to say, I did not remember much else from that lecture!
* There were these 3 annoying, snooty girls who would sit in the back of the class & whenever anyone would ask a question that they believed was dumb, they would whisper loudly how stupid that was to ask-of course, everyone could hear them. I wish I told them off!! I mean, hello, we were there to learn!
* I also hated it when I would work in a group & once I worked with these two girls who were very close friends & they mostly just talked to each other during the group sessions-so every time I tried to state my thoughts or opinions-they would completely ignore me! Hmmm...no wonder I hate group work!
* I also got really upset at a comment from one of our profs-a bunch of students & I had just finished taking our final exams during our last semester of school, & were talking about our upcoming pinning ceremony. This prof (should retire soon in my opinion!) walked by us & heard us talking about pinning & said out loud so we could all hear her" Well you know you cannot participate in pinning if you don't pass your exams." Geez lady! Thanks for pointing that one out! No pressure or anything! Call me crazy but I thought profs were there to teach, mentor & support nursing students!
I hate the stories of how that one person in the class has a comment about everything talked about, how usually that same person has had some family member who has had such n'such disease, condition etc.I hate the person who thinks they know more about nursing than the professor does (ok, well I've never taken a nursing class but i have taken A&P I).
I hate the people who constantly ask "is this going to be on the test"......geez anything that is covered in class is fair game to be on the test. I had an economics professor who would like at you like you're crazy if you ever asked him if something was going to be on the test...hello!
I hate when people come in late, and then go to the professors desk and rummage through desparetely trying to look for hand-outs already passed out.
I hate when ppl come in late and loud.
Cell phones...need I say more?
I hate the people who after receiving tests back they're like "what did you get what did you get" and it turns out u got a higher score than they did and they get pissed and make excuses why they didn't get a good grade.
I hate when people ask fifty million questions about what this is and what that is...For instance, a student raises their hand and says, "what is it when i have [put symptoms here]" Go to a doctor, geez luiz.
I seriously hate it when ppl are disruptive in class and rude to the professors. Geez this went on so much at my school, the way these people would talk to their professors is unreal...showing no respect at all. :angryfire
Umm that's all i can think of right now :)
Wow! I think we go to the same school! :chuckle
How about the ones that want to argue the test questions once it is handed back?
When the prof tells you to read Ch's 8 & 9 before the next lecture and it's BLATANTLY obvious that some people don't by the nature of their questions.
When students aren't grasping a certain topic they say, "Why do we have to know this stuff anyway". (I actually had a classmate in General Psych argue the reasoning behind why nursing students needed to take Psych!)
I also have a problem with the know-it-all students...we have some medical assistants that act like they are nurses/physicians. UGH! :angryfire
I am beginning to think that there is an actual quota of these know it all, phone answering, story telling, lazy people that have to be met in each nursing class:rotfl: . The admissions panel has to have at least 3 of them admitted per class in order to meet their quota and if they fall short then they don't get a bonus, JK. My biggest pet peeves are the know it all and the one with the family member. We have one girl who just turned 18, and she thinks that we need to know all about her mother and her MANY illnesses. Never mind that a trip to the ER for a sinus infection shouldn't take up 30 minutes of our lecture period:angryfire . Then she proceeded to tell us all about how the poor people living off the system with less serious ailments were admitted before her mother, they really bad part was she said that one of them had chest pain and she was angry her mother didn't go first. This same girl managed to get 3 criticals this semester for incredible stupid things (dropping meds on patient floor and then giving them to patient to take among other things like that) and we are only allowed 4 during all four semesters. I think that I may not see too much of her after next semester. I am so glad that I saw this thread. It's nice to let it out, lol. BTW kudos to all of you who have the guts to tell people they can't sponge off of your notes, wish I had that ability. Keep em coming.

Agh..GROUPS! How could I ever forget group projects and I mean the 6 people group projects in college. I HATED HATED HATED those asignments! Anytime I did a group project especially 3 or more was horrible trying to get the people to participate in the group. Ok maybe I'm a little to detailed but come on people not showing up to meat the entire 2 months of the class no no no! It was so bad that that one class that did it made the group size less than 3 now. Oh it was so horrible trying to get so many different people and I'm sorry but LOTS are lazy or just not motivated or at least my groups were plus being in college from many many backgrounds and different scedules just way to hard to find a way to work it out for everyone. Yea i know it's suppose to foster how to work with others very important but oh boy was not fun when your trying to pass!

Ahh we just had a group project with 6 people...try finding time getting together 6 people to do a debate!!! im suprised i made it through it.... :smackingf
I hate it when you run into those students who think they know everything and when you make an honest mistake or dont know something, they have to point it out and make light of it! I mean come on! I agree with who ever said something about the CNA's or the PCA's....geez...we have a couple who think they are MD's...atleast you'd think...
Or how about that one person in the class who has to correct the teacher ALL the time...or add her two cents in on the side just bc she worked in the pharmacy....
or maybe when teachers ALL decide to have tests on the same day! UGH....3 or 4 exams on one day is enough to kill someone...

Another peeve of mine is the clinical instructors are also the advisors and the ones you see for scheduling. Whenever you make an appointment, they never show or worst are never there (because are too busy) for you to make an appointment :angryfire
I can understand the need to multi-task but c'mon, I have needs too :chuckle (the need to talk to my advisor!)
