Nurses and Nursing Students: what was/is your biggest pet peeve in nursing school?

Published

What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???

Don't you hate it when:

you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!

when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....

come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....

At my school you get kicked out of class if your cell phone rings.

I'm right in the middle of my pet peeve now. Five of us were supposed to do a presentation and it's due Monday and so far only me and another student have invested any time into it. It's going to be good because we have both worked so hard on it, but the other students who did squat are going to get the credit.

I feel your pain! I have a group debate due soon and one of our group members has already irked me...i asked her to look over some articles and she said that she would not have time...!?! I know we are all busy but all 30 of us (30 in my program) have the exact same classes plus I have two at a cc outside of my nursing program and I found time! ah well...we have a chance to grade our other group members and they are confidential!

My pet peeve about nursing school was being so busy that your family and friends (friends who were not in nursing school) would call you and say,"I just wanted to make sure you were still alive." :chuckle

I just finished A&P II. My biggest pet peeve is when the instructor goes really slowly at the beginning of the term, then really rushes through the end. This happens all the time!!

I hate the complaining in lab about the dissections. Everybody KNOWS going in that we are going to dissect. Get over it or change your major! As the term goes on, they will hang back and try to avoid actually having to do it by looking over someone else's shoulder, or claiming they will be sick if they have to do it, etc.

And.. I also hate rattling chip bags during tests.

And people with a runny nose during tests constantly sniffing. (I bring tissue and pass it to the sniffer, hint, hint..)

OMGGG!!!! Yes!! I had this one girl in my class last semester - we were dissecting those giant 20 pound cats... She made her partners do all the cutting. She'd get a little green, and walk out a lot. (Yes, she's actually a nursing student!!) It was kinda funny, becase once, when she walked out, the instructor came up to her partners, and said, "If she's like this just cutting the cat, what is she going to do in the OR!? You guys need to talk to her, and see if this is what she really wants to do!"

She never touched the cat all semester. In fact, (LMAOOOO) when we had to pick up the pointer and identify structures for the instructor, she wore TWO PAIR of gloves. Two pair of gloves just to pick up a pointer and identify the veins?!?!

I would have no problems watching a human get cut open but yeah.....a cat would make me wanna :barf01: too.

I'm guessing its because we've been desensitized by TV and movies with all the blood and gore....but count the times you've see a kitty autopsy.

My pet peeves come from our professors mostly. They are so disorganized and makes them appear un proffesional. Isn't it ironic? ...considering they push the whole professionalism crap on us. Consider this...we are taking a practice HESI exam aat the end of each qtr. to familiarize ourselves with the test format. we show up to take the exam....oops they "forgot to order the disks". what imbecels? Are all of your guys professors as sucky as mine? We have had a million quizzes and such over things we have never DISCUSSED in class until after the quiz. haha

That was my first cat... but I've taken a few bio classes that involved dissections. I spent a whole semester in "animal bio" as a general ed class before I decided to go to nursing school ... Over there we cut up pigs, frogs, rats, fish, you name it... guess I was desensitized too?

I'd call ya a wimp, Z ... but I know better! (for all of y'all: she really is one tough chick) :p

I still say the chick in my class with 2 pairs of gloves just to pick up a pointer is a bit overboard.

As for my BIGGEST pet peeve: it's a little different. I can handle most of the BS and the drama, but I am fed up to my eyeballs with the school administration.

My school was solely a NURSING COLLEGE. They merged with an "elite" private university last year. (who knows why!?) Our tuition, in result, doubled. And the new administration has pretty much let us know that we were "inherited". They treat us like their wicked step-children. The university does not offer all the other classes or student benefits to us nursing students... I can't sign up for student health insurance through them. I can't go in and take an art class or computer class, or WHATEVER, because it's not part of my preapproved nursing curriculuum. They refuse to sell certain books to us at the campus bookstore - we can only get the NURSING texts that are assigned to our courses. We are expected to stay on our nursing college campus, and they always act surprised if we show up at the "MAIN" campus. I could go on ... it's awful. I keep remembering the legal briefs I had read on Brown v Board of Education and "Separate but Equal". ...yeah, it's like that.

Just hoping I can keep up with it until Dec 2006!

When someone is writing to a professor on the public web board and use really professional language such as: "Dear Dr. ____: What r u up 2? Can u e-mail me l8r about the test u r giving us?"

The list could go on....:chuckle

:chuckle Wazzzzzzup Professor!:rotfl:
