What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???

Don't you hate it when:

you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!

when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....

come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....

:) My pet peeve is someone popping gum!! :angryfire during lecture and especially during a test! Someone who sat behind me in lecture last semester had this very bad habit. It annoyed me to no end, as well as everyone else within earshot. Before our next test, the Instructor advised everyone that if you could not chew gum without popping it or smacking,,,,spit it out! Obvioulsy someone said something to the Instructor. From that point on, when I came into class and sat down I would turn around and say. "no gum popping". I'm sure that person would liked to have hit me in the mouth...but oh well....oh,oh,,then there's those "screw-off caps" on water bottles....does anyone realize how loud and annoying they are during a test?!!!

Not to mention what I will do to you if you spill that drink on my scantron!!! :chuckle ...ok.,I feel better!!!

:) Cell phones? during a test??!! We were told that if we had a cell phone or a pager that went off during the test that our test would be taken up immediately and that we would be graded on what was complete...period..the end!!! needless to say no one in my class ever had a phone ring during a test....I left mine in my car during all test. I was afraid that even if I turned it off that somehow it might malfunction and turn itself on....that would be my luck!!!! :rotfl:

The person who had a story for every disease and condition in the book, and would proceed to take a full 30 minutes to describe.

Cell phones. Especially during tests. It was SO rude.

People being labeled as "stuck up" or "bookworm" or "having no life" just because they got a 4.0.

People who called you a ***** when you declined to copy your notes for them, nevermind that you saw them doodling in their notebook and text messaging people. I'm all for helping, but not carrying, sorry.

People who acted like an expert because their mom/dad worked at (fill in place of employment here).

And group projects. A couple of people said that i wasn't a team player if i didn't want to do one. It wasn't that, it was just out 5 people in a group, usually 2 or 3 did all the **** work. And i have zero tolerance for that kind of team work.

I forgot to add. BF/GF students who can't keep their hands off each other. Kiss kiss..whisper whisper...giggle giggle.

Get a room.

thats a really good idea, i wish some of my instructors would do that!!!

oh and your gum popping story reminded me...lol...it drives me nuts when people make weird nose noises, you hear them as i like to call it "sucking up their snot" so that they can swallow it...gag...and i dont mean a runny nose, i mean that other noise like they are about to hock a loogie (sp? lol) or something..oh..i cant stand it...for real, go to the bathroom....ew...

Those people that act like everything that we do in nursing school is SO unbelievably beneath them because they (despite being a total dumbass) are going to be a CRNA - "I'll never have to do any of THIS stuff when I'm a CRNA"

Oh those cell phones. What ever happened to the silent mode? Are people THAT important that conversations can't wait until class is over? Especially since day one the professors have harped on the rudeness of cell phones!

When someone is writing to a professor on the public web board and use really professional language such as: "Dear Dr. ____: What r u up 2? Can u e-mail me l8r about the test u r giving us?"

The list could go on....:chuckle

I'll never forget the one student in my med-surg class who would text message her b/f during class, ask other people for their notes, then couldn't belived that she got a D on the tests!!!!

Oh, i forgot to mention she didn't take the shrink wrap off of her book, because "i might be able to sell it for more if it's never opened".

it this has already been mentioned, i apologize.....

incessant whispering/talking during lectures :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire . it usually comes from the back of the room from a table of "plastics" (term from the movie "mean girls"). whenever you or someone else asks them nicely to please quit talking/keep it down, you get the "eat ---- and die" look. every once in a while, someone would make the comment "some of us are interested in learing the material being presented. since you already know the material, would you please take your conversations outside so the rest of us can learn how to be as smart as you."

or

the person who only shows up for a class or two a week, comes to take the tests and still get a passing (barely) grade. here the rest of us are studying day and night while standing in line at the bank, grocery store, waiting in the doctor's office, etc.

i hear that!! i recently bought a digital voice recorder so that i can record my lectures...when im running or driving to and fro (lots of driving for me) or even waiting between classes, i turn it on and listen to my lectures over and over again...lol....

oh and here is a great one...geez the m ore you guys post the more i come up with lol....

last quarter in ap1 there were three or 4 girls who, using your term, we could definetly call plastics. they sat a row beneath me and i sat and watched/heard them every single test cheat!! they didnt even try to conceal it! theyd lean over eachother, push their tests toward the other person and kick them under the table...theyd also write little messages on the desk....so unfair!! i studied hard and aced my tests on my own...i know someone in the class turned them in at the end of the quarter, i hope they got what they deserved!!! oh and the funny pa rt was that they didnt even ace their tests...there were 4 of them and they still got c's...lmao....hope none of them are ever my nurse....whew...

I have a whole lot of pet peeves about nursing school, but I think one of my biggest is when grades are posted after a test there are certain students who stand there for what seems hours checking their grade and everyone elses so no one else can get up to see what their grade is. I mean, come on, your grades not going to change and please let others get up to see theirs! :coollook:

I cant stand instructors who act like it is a waste of their time to be teaching a lowly A&P class...my AP instructor is going for his PhD in Biology and you can tell that teaching is a requirement he is not happy about. ugh what a waste of money! he totally makes some powerpoint slides from the book and just reads them to the class. sigh...

also...lab partners who partner up with you bc they have no idea what is going on in class and let you do all the work while they ride on your back~ last week my p spent the whole time telling me how shes going to be stripper and how her new bf is buying her breast implants (something shes wanted since she was 12), meanwhile I am measuring stinky backteria...nice girl dont get me wrong but geez i dont know how she is going to make it through clinicals...
