Nurses and Nursing Students: what was/is your biggest pet peeve in nursing school?

Published

What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???

Don't you hate it when:

you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!

when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....

come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....

the gay white pants that I must wear to clinicals.

I hate when profs spend most of our class time teaching us about what they wrote their dissertation on...i know what they are talking about is important but there is more than one subject on the nclex...also it b ugs me when clincial faculty and professors contradict eachother...

also last week in clinical i did something that one faculty had taught me and my new instructor reprimanded me saying i did it wrong...come to find out its one of those things that can be done many ways! why do that?!

or when they contradict what is in the text book and then on the exam dont want to take that answer...they tell us we should know that it wasnt right? how am i supposed to know it wasnt right if it was in the text book? ugh.[/QUOTE]

YES! and then they look at you like you are crazy for doing a skill or procedure one way, when they like it to be done another way for some arbitrary reason. :angryfire

the gay white pants that I must wear to clinicals.

the gay white pants that I must wear to clinicals.

No, Marie, they are HAPPY pants!!!:trout: :trout: :lol2: :lol2:

My biggest pet peeve is how much whining about other students goes on. :uhoh3:

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

A fellow student sits in every class and makes comments during the lectures to "prove" that she already knows all the information being presented, but yet can barely pass tests! I guess that's what you get if you think that no one can teach you more than you know already. It's sad because she's the student that everyone talks about behind her back and NO ONE will sit next to in the classroom. You'd think she'd get the hint already!

Specializes in ER.

the student that has had every disease that is covered in class or knows someone that has....jeez how unlucky can one person be?!?! :icon_roll

also, the advisor that doesn't know her rear end from a hole in the ground. she's supposed to be there to help nursing students figure out which classes they need to take, and then she ends up registering them for a class that is not even needed as a prereq. yeah, she's definitely being investigated. this has happened to more than one person. i mean, come on, this is a person's future she's messing with!!! :angryfire :nono:

The students who talk during lecture and distract others from hearing what is being taught or said. ANNOYING!!!! I mean, come on, how old are we???

Specializes in Med/Surg.

:monkeydance:My pet peeve would be...................

hearing a classmate argue with the instructor about their grade when they already have an A, white uniforms, and most of all a clinical instructor who changes (EVERY WEEK)the way she wants her care plans done and now the semester is over with and you get to look forward to a new instructor and a new way to do the care plans .:chair:

Specializes in Geriatric and now peds!!!!.

Here are just a few of pet peeves from nursing school:

the student(s) who got in a fight with a instructor over 1 question on an exam, had to be escorted out by security, still allowed to be in school (they went to days)

The know it all student, who knows more then the instructor

cell phones vibrating loudly during final exams, and tests in class

the student with the A average, arguing over every single test question because "That's not what the book says", getting her one point, while the rest of us who answered the question correctly lose ours.

Students who cheated on the finals, and were still allowed to stay in school.

2 paticular students who in clinicals were pets of the instructor, got easy patients everytime and didnt do squat in clinicals, while the rest of us were given the extremely complicated ones. (made me a better person, when I was able to do everything required. I loved the look on that instructors face when I was able to do the things she didnt think I could do!!!)

The DON losing our dosage calcualations tests 3 TIMES, and having to sweat bullets to retake it 2 days before graduation (if we didnt pass it, we wouldnt graduate)

On the upside: I have made some awesome friends. In fact 3 of us happen to work in the same LTC facility!!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there, you can do it!!!!!

Wendy

LPN and darn proud to be one!!!!

ugh! cracking knuckles!!! can't stand it!

Students that whisper loudly or actively talk during lecture.

SO. ANNOYING.

Cell phones going off in class, usually the same people over and over again.

Working with disgruntled nurses during clinical.

Group projects, or any projects for that matter.
