What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???
Don't you hate it when:
you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!
when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....
come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....
ELKMN: Sorry, I wasn't clear. Our doors in each classroom open into an outdoor courtyard area. Which is technically hospital property leased by the school, where no smoking is allowed anyway. I wish the school would crack down on it. I hear ya on the vent too, like you, I often feel like I am doing backflips to accomodate others' schedules. It's draining! Hopefully this gets better for both of us :)
isnt it crazy how there is always one person who is ALWAYS sick? no matter what time of year they always have a runny nose..sniff s niff..yeah bugs me too..lol...in one of my classes this lady would actually bring a roll of TP with her and set it on the desk. lol.
Wow and you want to be/are nurse.....A bit insensitive and ignorant. hmmm, lets see, runny nose all throughout the year, seem like allergies to me not sickeness. Its not there fault they have a runny nose all the time. I would say as a nurse you should be a bit more empathetic.
I am just starting the last of my pre recs and have already come across a girl that is just not fit to be a nurse. She has no empathy, no compassion and is probley one of the most horrific people I have encountered. How is it that people who hate everyone and everything are in a profession that thrives on compassion?
Sadly, I think a lot of people want to get into this field just for the money (which, believe me, is going to be a very nice perk, but it isn't the main reason for me wanting to be a nurse). I bet if she came across a nurse like her, she wouldn't be very happy. It's terrible when people like that take a spot in the program when others who are more deserving couldn't get in.
Ah, going to finish up my nursing program app this week - wish me luck!

Gee, I could say the same thing about you. Anyone who would make a comment such as yours on what information my post contained is ignorant and insensitive, makes me wonder why you would be so judgemental. Talk about an ignorant statement: "hmmm, lets see, runny nose all throughout the year, seem like allergies to me not sickeness"!!! I never set out to diagnose anyone...and I never singled out one person and said they were always sick. In a lecutre room with 300 ppl there is no way to tell who has allergies vs. being sick! That statement all around was completely irrelevant. This is a thread about pet peeves and YES, it does annoy me when someone is always sniffling really loud during lecture/tests whether they have allergies or a cold (nose blowing doesnt bother me)! Its distracting and that has nothing to do with my abilities as a nurse. I would say as a nurse you shouldnt be shouldnt make such sweeping judgements about people.

Well said.
Hehe, stress or something activated my allergies really badly during one semester. I didn't go with the TP, but I was trying really hard not to be too loud, keeping tissues close at hand. Hope that didn't annoy anyone too badly. Allergy meds made me too tired to listen to lectures. I can see where people constantly, and loudly sniffing and snorting during exams is a reasonable pet peeve, regardless of the cause. There are ways to try to try and keep things quiet

Wow, good luck to you. With patience such as yours, I wish you only the best in your nursing career.
may i just say that i agree with all the pet peeves but there has been a couple that i have to say :-(
1. we have this one person in our class that bossess around everyone just cause she did another course that is a bit higher than the nursing we are doing at the moment she thinks that she is top dog
2. then there is this other person who does not like older people (she is only 21, therefore not knowing what old is to her). she is going to have some problems out there in the workplace, what does she think that all people that need care are young fit people?
3. then there is the nice to your face then try and exclude you person
4. the person that will come and do the group work but ends up doing something else, for goodness sake how are you going to work in groups in the REAL WORLD if you can't do it at school
5. and lastly there are the ones who always lose something before it's due - therefore they are doing it in class when they should be listening to the information that will help them to do the next project/assignment
:-)there are also the nice ones and the ones that you know are destined to become nurses! :-)

I hear ya. I took a nurses aid class at the cc in my city and it was a pre req for their nursing program so pretty much everyone in there was trying to get into the nursing program. There was a girl in there who was so awful. During our 3 days of clinical at a local LTCF she insulted the residents...refused to do bed baths (bc according to her it was 'disgusting')...made it very clear that she NEVER wanted to change a depends or deal with any bodily functions...went as far as to say she "hated old people"....
I just didnt get it...i mean if she felt that way why in the world would she want to be a nurse??
