What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???
Don't you hate it when:
you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!
when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....
come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....
People who walk out of an exam saying.."That exam was a joke !" *said in best prissy voice
With them knowing darn well it wasn't for everybody.

Every time my teacher heard that, the next exam would be harder!
Then whenever we would ask the teacher a question and she would answer for the teacher and call the rest of us dumb, yet she was the one that flunked a mid term
Being taught to refer to the patients as not patients but as "clients".
Young rich girls who never had to work a day in their lives (I went to an expensive private school) complaining about how little time they had (to watch "The O.C." etc) during nursing school, while the rest of us with jobs and/or families had absolutely NO free time at all.
Required Bible classes. I went to a religion-affiliated school. Lovely institution, but I don't think I'll ever do that again.
So many peeves, so little time...
Clinical instructors who tell you to "look it up" when you don't have access to reference materials and your pt. is awaiting an answer.
Fellow students who label you but haven't bothered to get to know you.
Nurses who can't ignore their olfactory sense.
People who resent the fact that I had another life before nursing school. and sometimes those experiences give me an added edge.
I totally agree, when we did our clinicals in the LTCF she never wanted to do any of the skills, shed back up and just kinda stare, finally i'd give in and do it (even though she was supposed to). I don't know if she thinks that she will NEVER get old or what but I have news for her...I just kept thinking that could be my mom or me!! in a few years and some of the attitudes I saw there frightened me!!! Some people (especially a few in my class)fail to realize that the residents are people!! it makes me sick how much disrespect some have for the elderly...well that could be why she BARELY passed her clinical portion! When she saw that I got all excellent marks she started whining that she didnt understand why the instructor said she wasnt compassionate enough and didnt think nursing was for her!
Please, please tell me they weed these people out of class!
If I hear another story about a students pregnancy, I'll bust!
I also hate it when a girl you KNOW studied her a>> off gets a marginal grade and proclaims "I'd have done better if I'd have studied"
And my #1 pet peve: Stories about everyones family members ailments. Every one of them is the worst case ever seen by medical science.
I HATE HATE the fact that the night before clinical we are required to collect our patient's information and then do a million drug cards the night before. I would be up till 2 or 3 am and then have to get back up at 5am!!:angryfire :angryfire
I also hate when people brag about getting good grades and say "I didn't even study."
I also hate when people ask, "What did you get?"
I also hate gossip.
I hate when people talk about others(and this goes for all classes, work etc) and say things like "I don't like her/him, when the "gossiper" don't even know them from a can of paint!:angryfire
And I also hate bossy people. We have one student in our class who will act like she's our mother. If people are talking she'll go SHHHHHHHHHHH real load. I mean yah it's distracting when people talk but most of the time the teacher isn't even talking!
And to vent about a particular student if I may...this girl will make sounds (similar to rolling your eyes kind of sound like uhhhhhhh) when a student in the class is participating or talking to the instuctor about an experience or something. If a student wants to share a story or ask a question(she does this when someone asks a question) then let the student talk!
Cell phones seem to be a major pet peeve and that doen't really bother me, but now it probably will.:chuckle
Great thread!:)
Man oh man, I was at a CPR course the other day, and the group of girls behind me (I think they were still in high school) would not shut up. They were giggling and yakking during the lecture and videos, which made it hard for me to hear. All the seats were full, so I couldn't move. I asked them to stop about 3 times, each request getting more visible irate. They responded by audibly talking smack about me. When the class was over, I walked over to them and told them that they were obnoxious and distracting. I wish I could say that all annoying people could be weeded out, but that's not the case.
