Nurses and the 2008 election

Published

A recent study led by Vanderbilt University professor Peter Buerhaus polled registered nurses about two timely issues -- the state of health care and the importance of the issue in the upcoming election.

With a close election expected, the country's three million registered nurses could make a difference in the election, Buerhaus says.

Most nurses interviewed support some form of universal health care coverage, although opinions vary on just how extensive coverage should be.

Very few approve of the country's health care system as it stands now, the survey shows.

...Slightly more than half, or 51 percent, believe that if all nurses could join together to address one health problem, it would be the number of uninsured Americans.

McCain is going to smoke Obama like reagan smoked Mondale. Laugh about Palin but she will definitely attract a large number of female voters. Besides we know the only Reason Obama chose Biden is to attract white males to vote for him. Obama has about as much business and financial experience as a people greeter at you local Wal-Mart.

Ugh, she IS NOT going to attract a large number of women voters! And, McSame ole, same old is NOT going to smoke Obama! He chose her b/c he "thinks" she can attract the Hillary supporters. But, she is NO WHERE CLOSE to HILLARY CLINTON. Please. She is a regular woman who has done hardly anything for her community and even her locals in Alaska are stunned at this choice and believe she is not ready. She is against the environment and all womens rights. One specifically is abortion as a result of incest, rape or even the death of the mother. Any woman and actually, ANYONE who can read a basic lulla-bye, is going to recognize that she lacks in more ways than one in the things she brings to the table of the VP of the USA. The thought of someone so completely inexperienced taking over if McCain dies, makes me squirm in my seat!

GOD help us! Haven't we all suffered enough??

Obama and Biden are going to SWEEP this country with the change it needs! And I for one, cannot wait for that change to begin:)

people don't vote on age, gender, race, religion or one issue

i prefer mccain but i was inclined to vote for him before the v/p choice because of his fiscal views

Well, we are almost fiscally bankrupt and this country gave up it's 'morals' 2 elections ago.

Can I say illegal detainee, wmd's, katrina, poor economy, Iraq, ad nauseum.

I think it's been a lot longer ago than 2 elections. 2 small examples are Korea and Vietnam, where we "Neville Chamberlained" our enemies, that is we appeased. Instead of going over there and decisively kicking the enemies' butts, we took the low road. Enron, Arthur Andersen, the current chicanery in the finance markets. All of these things tell me the end of America as we know her is near. Not to mention a fascinating man I heard speak last night. His name is Ted Deckard.

she is a regular woman :)

lord forbid we have one of those in d.c.....

..someone who has been in a union, worked with her hands, driven the kids to hockey practice, shops at food lion (not whole foods) and raised at least one child brave enough to serve his country (just like the sons and daughters of a lot of "regular women").:usarm:

if ever the snotty, liberal scorn of real working americans has been expressed, it is summed up in this one statement!!

i find it quite interesting how the republicans have consistently scorned and repeatedly tried to smear barack obama b/c he has a "lack of experience". yet, now the republican candidate has chosen the "weakest" vp pick he ever could have and with zero experience.

so now, the republican party is saying it is ok to have a "lack of experience"? talk about contradiction! hah.

everyone is talking about her lack of experience and her just being a woman with absolutely no foundation for the vice presidency in this country. i don't know about you, but the last time i checked, this country was in complete shambles and has been squandered by our current administration who continuously preys on the fear of it's own people. i'm sorry, but it's going to take a lot more than a "regular woman with zero experience" who drives her children to hockey practice and is an avid fisherman, to be a vice president. i'm definitely not alone in thinking this.

mccains choice only makes obama shine so much brighter and blatantly shows the true lack of judgement he has in important decision making. that in itself is quite scary.

Keep comparing your presidental candidate to the GOP VP pick....please!!! Nothing like having the other side do your work for you....:chuckle

funny how most soldiers and vets are scorning the republican conservatives.

funny how you don't mention the fact that ms. bush sr. couldn't raise a son to serve honorably.

liberals have supported the poor, the working class and the union more than republicans ever have.

joe friday said it best... "we just want the facts. just the facts m'am."

On a lighter note, you are correct. There are significant differences between the two.

That is really interesting because more than once the man (McCain) has admitted that he doesn't really understand the workings of our economy.

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/can-this-be-true/

Also when being questioned by Tim Russert during the Republican debates on a the subject of interest rates and wether or not Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, had sufficiently cut them. McCain stated that he did not have sufficient knowledge of interest rates but, "I've got Greenspan's book." Good lord, have mercy!

He then goes on to say that he is ALWAYS happy when interest rates are cut and that he wishes they were at zero%

I don't know if I should laugh or cry but what I do know is this:

Wall Street would crumble if interest rates were zero, there would be no interest gained on your money in the bank and money would flood out of the U.S. like a hemorrhaging hemophiliac leaving our economy bankrupt.

These are just two, of many examples, of the man's staggering fiscal ineptitude.

I don't want him anywhere near my money.

I'd like to say looks don't matter but that is just plain funny...

now, that's misogynist.

atta boy, turd.

leslie

I agree Leslie. However it is very typical given the obsession with appearance so predominant in the U.S., and sadly, not at all in any association with how healthy living affects appearance.

Maybe I should consider a future as RN to a plastic surgeon, since that's where the big bucks will be.
