Does your facility/school remember you on School Nurses Day ?
If so...what do they do in honor of the occasion?

I was so surprised this morning and throughout the day! The third grade teachers went together and got me a Starbucks travel mug and giftcard, a 2nd grade teacher got me a gorgeous necklace and earring set, one of the classes made me a pen that is topped with a flower and is glued in a little clay pot, the special ed class got me cool colored bandages and cutesy cold packs, and my coordinated school health supervisor got me a change purse and notepad!! I'm super happy!
My Admins and office staff do recognize School Nurse Day. Last year several classes made cards for me which were really sweet. I kept all of them. I am lucky to be in a great school with a lot of support.
Each year our county school board passes resolutions to honor bus drivers, cafeteria workers, nurses, etc on certain weeks during the school year. The week they passed for school nurses this year - was DURING Spring Break The school nurses just had to laugh...
I recieved a nice planter from the secretaries. A little book of drawings from one kinder. class. Not one teacher said Happy Nurse's Day (week). Oh well, I don't have high expectations for this group. School Nurses Day has never been much around here. After 18 years, I give up !

Okay, I am at a new school this year and in the past they have done things for the previous nurse. Today I have not even gotten a Happy School Nurses day from anyone. Last week was teacher appreciation week and they(teachers, aides,) recieved gift baskets with things that pertained to them individually:confused:. So It looks like this year is a bust! This is probably the first year that I have not received something at all. My supervisor did not even wish me happy nurses day until I said it to her first. So I am ready for this day to be over....

OK. I hope this is not a repeat. I don't know what I hit the last time I was posting.
Last year was my first year as a school nurse. I didn't even know it was school nurse's day until my Principal announced it over the intercom and encouraged everyone to stop by the clinic to show appreciation. I received a gift card from the Principal and AP, a bracelet from some of the ladies up front/para's, one teacher had her class make me a poster, and another teacher had each of her students make me a card, I got some emails and several stopped by the clinic. I felt very special.:redpinkhe I have to say I love my school (an elementary school of just under 400). Everyone is great to work with, genuinely care about the students and are always appreciative. Of course there are always a few issues here and there, but that's just life.
By the way, I think this is my first time posting even though I've been reading since I got my interview for the job last year. I'm an RN, BSN. Have been for 10 years though I've only worked about 5 of those (took some time off with my little ones). I've worked for a large family practice and done home health. I'm a wife and mom to 3, 2 of which go to the school where I work. The 3rd will be there next year.:) Like I said, I love my school. The pay is piddly but I love love love the hours and being involved in the school where my kids go. I enjoy taking care of the children and being mostly independent, though sometimes it's a little scary when there's no second opinion right at hand. I've always enjoyed reading the posts on this board. Feel like I know a lot of you.
