... and now for the consequences

I was all for anonymity when this lice thing came out. I tell parents at the back to school night to invest in a $10 lice comb and check monthly. I tell them it is not a school issue, though it can spread anywhere. My administration decided to send a school wide email and now, after the whole school check, which I opposed, there is a child who has missed 2 days of school. Yesterday because she was sent somewhere to be rechecked, because we can't be trusted, and today because some "doctor" stated that she should not come back until the infection is gone. This mother did not keep her snowflake home when we had a 15% Flu rate, and that can be deadly. People are just plain stupid.

Texas put in a House Bill that we are required to notify parents in 48 hours of detecting lice. At least they did not exclude.

I thought this was the dumbest thing the legislature had come up with to date but I adhered to the new law to the "T." I've sent 4 notices home this school year (one note to the parent of the "infected";) student and a note to all the parents of students in that classroom). And surprisingly, I've received NO calls as a result.

It must be like not calling a parent about a recess injury...they wouldn't do anything if you called but will get mad and lash out that you didn't call.

I never understand why parents think they can pull things out of their butt and not get caught.

Or why parents think I can't recognize a forged doctor's note? Hello?!? All it took was a quick call to the clinic to confirm you were lying to me.

Since we love talking about lice so much... (eyeroll)

I went to a conference last week & learned about a different, evidence-based treatment using Cetaphil! Cheaper than a lot of methods & perfect for those parents who think chemical lice treatments are going to poison their baby's brain. It's an old study...not sure why I'd never heard of it as much as we like to talk about lice.

My grandson's school recommended this last year and it worked. Although their dad took them to the barber anyway and got their heads shaved. They were soooo cute. On the other hand, I helped my daughter comb nits out of her long thick hair with success.

..."until the infection is gone." I'm sure he meant to say "infestation."

I have an entire file folder labelled "lice letters 2017 - 2018" due to this stupid law. I have however made the interpretation that the same kid with lice a month later is not a new case but just a continuation so I don't send out letters again until another snowflake has it (generally a cousin or best friend that sleeps over with lousey mcfriendly)

I just had a teacher email me and I quote, "I had a student of mine tell her mother that another student told her that she had lice but not to tell anyone. Can you please check so-so and so-so's sister?"

I'll check but really?

NOPE! I had this happen yesterday- 2 students told a teacher 2 other students have lice. I was called to check them. My response: "We don't check students based on what other students think they have seen. Same as when a parent of a student calls to report a child not belonging to them needs checked."

If signs or evidence witnessed by a teacher are reported, then I will check the student. Until then, I'm not entertaining what I feel is people trying to feed into drama that originated over something else.
